Addis Ababa, May 16, 2026 — The Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Temesgen Tiruneh, stated that the nation’s combined agricultural programs are essential in supporting the country’s objective of attaining food independence.
The vice prime minister spoke during a visit to farming development and conservation initiatives in Grawa Woreda, situated in the East Hararghe Zone of Ethiopia’s Oromia region.
The event was joined by various federal and local authorities, among them Addisu Arega.
Temesgen pointed to Garamuleta as a rising example of agricultural progress and environmental protection, mentioning that the region’s deep history and scenic landscapes are being enhanced by substantial development initiatives.
“Today, in Meira Gudina Kebele, Grawa Woreda of the East Hararghe Zone, we explored a remarkable watershed development initiative that showcases how environmental conservation and enhanced farming output can coexist,” he stated.
As stated by the deputy prime minister, initiatives focused on integrated farming in the region are increasing the growth of fruits and vegetables, promoting forest development, and enhancing overall agricultural output—playing a major role in Ethiopia’s continuous agricultural advancement.
He mentioned that local farmers, grouped into clusters, are achieving significant advancements in horticulture, fruit cultivation, animal husbandry, and apiculture.
“These combined agricultural projects are contributing significantly to our country’s objective of achieving food independence,” Temesgen stated.
He highlighted that these initiatives are contributing to turning rural areas into thriving and environmentally friendly hubs of economic development.
“Collectively, we are turning our environments into thriving and eco-friendly centers of wealth,” he further stated.
