Addis Ababa, May 16, 2026 — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed emphasized that development initiatives incorporating farmers should be the priority for all industrialists throughout the country.
The leader spoke today during the opening of the Gelan Gura Industrial Park, a key initiative in the capital designed to boost medium and large-scale production and generate thousands of job opportunities for young people.
The leader remembered that two years ago, the site where the industrial park was constructed lacked water, roads, electricity, and other essential facilities.
Nevertheless, the Gelan Gura region has now become a center, featuring modern roads, bridges, designated green areas, and extensive public facilities.
The main objective is to develop a generation skilled in constructing a nation devoid of poverty, said Prime Minister Abiy, emphasizing that united effort from all parts of society is essential to realize the dream.
He also stressed that development projects should support local farmers, the disadvantaged, and those in need, pointing out that “we cannot attain real progress if we make our farmers just keepers of their own land.”
Highlighting the globally recognized progress being made in Ethiopia’s development, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of citizens concentrating on their duties, setting aside short-term interests and feelings.
He mentioned that industrial development takes time and comprehensive infrastructure, emphasizing that the Gelan Gura Industrial Park is a facility where previously unemployed youth have been organized.
Prime Minister Abiy mentioned that the facility is a specialized manufacturing incubator, home to a variety of businesses focused on creating water pumps, blocks, and animal feed.
Calling it a hub for local industrialists, he emphasized the need to make sure Ethiopia’s industrial sector is supported and directed by native expertise.
Prime Minister Abiy warned that isolated industrial initiatives are not viable, reiterating that the common values of all industrialists should focus on development that actively includes and incorporates local farmers.
He urged all regional nations to take motivation from the Gelan Gura example and create comparable inclusive industrial zones designed for young people and farmers.
Emphasizing the importance of public involvement as a key factor in rapid national change, he called on the people to safeguard and advance Ethiopia by actively striving to assist young people in overcoming the issues of joblessness.
True advancement is created by dedication and effort, the Prime Minister stated, urging national growth based on shared love and respect.
Showing complete faith in the country’s ability to carry out its plans, the Prime Minister mentioned that there is nothing we have started in Ethiopia and not completed.
Nevertheless, he cautioned that corruption is a weed that stifles efficiency, calling for maximum alertness towards it.
