The Minister for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has requested free medical care for victims from a three-story structure that collapsed in Abuja on Saturday, May 16, resulting in five fatalities.
Dr Adedolapo Fasawe, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, revealed this during her visit to the location.
Fasawe mentioned that rescue missions were still in progress as emergency workers kept trying to extract additional victims who were thought to be buried under the debris.
The FEMD, in a statement released by the department’s Public Affairs Director, Mrs. Nkechi Isa, mentioned that their search and rescue team has successfully saved 16 individuals.
It mentioned that 11 of the survivors have been admitted to the Federal Medical Center in Abuja, Asokoro District Hospital, and Maitama Hospital for medical care.
The department mentioned that the majority of individuals stuck under the debris were workers.
It mentioned that other emergency responders, such as the National Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, and FCT Police Command, continued to perform search and rescue operations while worried locals watched.
“Additionally present at the location were members of the Nigerian Army, Federal Road Safety Corps, FCT Emergency Medical Services, and medical staff from Wuse District Hospital,” it stated.
