The Police Inspector-General, Olatunji Disu, has toured communities within the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after a violent attack and kidnapping took place in the region.
This was verified in a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, on Saturday.
The statement highlighted that the IG conveyed significant worry about the event and offered condolences to the families of those who died in the attack that took place in the early hours of Friday.
The statement said, “IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, the Inspector-General of Police, visited Oyo State today after the unfortunate attack and kidnapping that took place in Oriire Local Government Area of the state during the early hours of Friday, 15th May, 2026.”
The IGP was joined during the visit by the Police Commissioner of Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, due to the strategic closeness of the Oriire axis to communities neighboring Kwara State, along with the Police Commissioner of the Schools Protection Squad, CP Abayomi Shogunle, as part of continued initiatives to enhance school security and ensure coordinated response strategies.
Throughout the visit, the Inspector-General met with the Police Commissioner of Oyo State Command, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, psc, mnips, along with other security officials, and was updated on current rescue operations and security arrangements in the affected areas.
The statement also mentioned that the police chief reassured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, had increased joint search-and-rescue efforts to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped individuals.
“The IGP assured residents, parents, and guardians that the Nigeria Police Force, working alongside other security agencies, has increased joint search-and-rescue efforts, intelligence collection, and tactical movements to ensure the safe return of all kidnapped individuals and to hold those responsible accountable,” it stated.
Disu criticized the assault, calling it “brutal and inexcusable,” while sending more operational and intelligence resources to enhance current activities throughout the region and nearby woodlands.
The central command of the Force emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force continues to be dedicated to safeguarding schools, neighborhoods, and residents throughout the nation.
Remember that attackers, who were riding motorcycles, simultaneously attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, as well as Community Grammar School/L. A Primary School, Esiele, taking students, pupils, and staff members, including the Vice Principal, Mrs Alamu Folawe.
The State Governor, Seyi Makinde, condemned the incident and revealed that his administration has been collaborating with security agencies to understand what occurred in the community and to implement measures to avoid similar events in the future.
Makinde, therefore, called on community leaders and the state’s residents to remain alert and attentive to their surroundings, reporting any unusual behavior immediately to the security authorities.
He pledged to the citizens of the state that his administration would remain dedicated to fighting criminal activities and collaborating efficiently with law enforcement agencies to protect the state.
