U Mobile Supercharges Sabah’s Digital Landscape with Expanded ULTRA5G Network

U Mobile is significantly bolstering its network infrastructure across Sabah, extending the reach of its cutting-edge ULTRA5G service to more areas throughout the state. This strategic expansion underscores the telco’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation and empowering communities with next-generation connectivity.

The enhanced ULTRA5G coverage now encompasses additional locales within Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Beaufort, and Kudat. Beyond these expanding outdoor footprints, U Mobile has also established robust indoor ULTRA5G connectivity at key high-traffic locations. Prominent among these are the Imago Mall and the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, with further indoor sites slated for deployment as the network rollout progresses.

The AI gap: South Korea’s missed opportunity

To celebrate the broadened availability of its ULTRA5G capabilities in Sabah, U Mobile orchestrated the vibrant Cara U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest. This three-day event, held from February 6th to 8th, 2026, at Jetty DBKK, was a dynamic fusion of music, culinary delights, and fashion, drawing a significant crowd eager to experience the future of mobile technology.

The festival served as more than just entertainment; it provided attendees with an immersive, hands-on demonstration of U Mobile’s advanced 5G network. Visitors were invited to witness firsthand the tangible benefits of ULTRA5G, experiencing its superior speeds and innovative applications. On-site showcases highlighted the network’s increased capacity and remarkably low latency, offering a glimpse into a more responsive digital world. U Mobile also featured a dedicated booth where festival-goers could explore and interact with cutting-edge AI-driven applications, including the innovative AI Wardrobe and AI Grooming tools.

U Mobile emphasized that the expanded ULTRA5G network is poised to deliver significantly lower latency, which is crucial for supporting demanding applications. This translates to clearer video calls, exceptionally smooth live streaming experiences, and a more stable connection, even in areas that typically experience network congestion.

Empowering Enterprises and Driving Innovation

The availability of seamless indoor ULTRA5G coverage is a game-changer for businesses and various sectors, including retail, transportation hubs, and public sector offices. U Mobile highlights that this advanced connectivity opens up a wealth of digitalisation opportunities that extend far beyond basic internet access. These opportunities include the deployment of enterprise-grade services, the implementation of sophisticated Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, the adoption of advanced AI technologies, and the enhancement of cybersecurity capabilities. The ultimate goal is to foster smarter building operations, elevate customer experiences, and streamline workflows for greater efficiency. U Mobile has also indicated a strategic focus on tailoring its offerings to meet specific enterprise needs, moving beyond mere connectivity to provide comprehensive digital solutions.

Woon Ooi Yuen, U Mobile’s Chief Technology Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the network’s expansion. “U Mobile has been aggressively expanding our next-gen 5G network, and we are delighted to have further strengthened our presence in Sabah,” he stated. “We are committed to supporting the state’s digital transformation and fostering the growth of its digital economy. With the increased availability of our ULTRA5G experience, we are not only enhancing customer experience but also empowering Sabahans to unlock digitalisation opportunities through 5G-A and AI applications, alongside enterprise-grade solutions and cybersecurity-safe services.”

He further elaborated on the company’s local commitment: “As a Malaysian company, we are also actively collaborating with local partners such as Celcom Timur Sabah for fibre backhaul. This collaboration is instrumental in creating local job opportunities, fostering skills development, and driving business growth, ultimately benefiting Sabahans as part of our ongoing rollout efforts.”

In line with its commitment to customer accessibility and service, U Mobile has recently inaugurated a new full-service retail store at Kompleks Karamunsing. This new outlet offers personalised assistance, showcases the latest devices, and provides access to U Mobile’s comprehensive suite of plans. Notably, the store features East Malaysia-specific offerings such as the U Borneo Prepaid, U Borneo Postpaid, and U Home 5G Borneo plans, catering directly to the unique needs of the region.
