BUBBLY following the burial of Hardrock, Highlanders’ coach Benjani “The Undertaker” Mwaruwari will confront his previous team, Ngezi Platinum Stars, in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) match at Barbourfields tomorrow.

Mwaruwari started his professional coaching journey with Ngezi Platinum Stars in 2022, but his time there ended after 13 games due to a series of unfavorable outcomes.

He vanished from the local football community for four years following his termination before making a comeback to lead his childhood team, Highlanders.

Under the leadership of Ngezi’s head coach, Mwaruwari, a 1-1 tie was achieved against his present team in April 2022, after which he was dismissed three months later.

The former Warriors captain then escalated his dismissal issue to Fifa, where he received over US$500,000 for unjust termination.

From a legal perspective, the Highlanders are now getting ready to play against Ngezi Platinum Stars, the sole team that has not suffered a defeat in the league this season.

If appearance is any indication, Ngezi Platinum, guided by Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, are strong contenders to emerge victorious.

They have secured five victories and eight draws, placing them third on the table with 22 points; four points behind the leading team Caps United.

The Highlanders seem to be back in shape, having secured victories in their past two games against Triangle and the well-regarded Hardrock.

Prior to that, they had secured eight draws, endured one defeat, and managed a single win over Chicken Inn.

Mwaruwari states that confidence is making a comeback within the Highlanders’ camp.

“Unity within the team is very strong. Hopefully, we can enhance the aspects where we struggled (on Wednesday). When you win like this, you tend to overlook the errors you made. We need to continue putting in the effort. Football is a journey, we are still developing, and we are moving in the correct direction,” Mwaruwari stated.

The Highlanders are ranked 10th in the standings with 17 points, five points behind Ngezi Platinum and nine points less than league leaders Caps United.

In the past, Ngezi Platinum have faced challenges at Barbourfields, where Highlanders frequently present a tough opposition.

Ngezi head into the game following a 1-1 tie with TelOne at Baobab Stadium on Wednesday.
