Pakistan, May 16 — Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed gratitude to Pope Leo for what he termed a “moral” position in opposition to US strikes on Iran. He stated that the Pope’s viewpoint was just and logical, and followed actions he referred to as illegal and disruptive. These comments underscore Iran’s initiative to gain diplomatic backing during increasing tensions.
Pezeshkian stated that the US and Israeli attacks were conducted based on false justifications while discussions were still taking place. He also condemned remarks made by former US President Donald Trump, labeling them as hazardous and reckless. Additionally, he mentioned that these approaches weaken international law and world stability.

The Iranian leader cautioned that actions by the United States and Israel threaten not just Iran but also the larger global framework. He claimed that ongoing military pressure is increasing instability in the region. Additionally, he stated that Iran is willing to engage in discussions provided the terms align with national interests and “prudence.”
In addition, Iran’s UN representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, accused the United States and its allies of causing instability in the Strait of Hormuz. He mentioned that assaults on energy facilities have disturbed global supply chains and energy markets. As a result, he cautioned about increasing threats to international economic stability.

Iravani stated that Iran has experienced repeated illegal attacks and significant harm to civilians. He mentioned that Tehran is ready to bring stability to the Strait if tensions decrease. Experts believe these statements indicate growing diplomatic conflict within the United Nations.
