Addis Ababa, May 16, 2026 — Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated that the completion and opening of the initial phase of the Gelan Gura Industrial Park represents a major step forward in Ethiopia’s path to wealth and economic development.

Out of the park’s total area of 93.9 hectares, the initial phase covers 43 hectares and was officially opened today.

As stated by the Prime Minister, the industrial zone will establish a supportive business climate for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and provide job prospects for thousands of young Ethiopians.

In a post published on his social media accounts, Prime Minister Abiy stated that the initiative offers a significant chance for local producers to increase their output, boost efficiency, and strengthen their competitive edge, allowing them to play a valuable role in the city, the nation, and the broader region.

He observed that by manufacturing goods that replace imports, the industrial park will establish a direct and effective trade connection between producers and consumers.

The Prime Minister also highlighted that providing goods to global markets will aid in preserving and boosting Ethiopia’s foreign exchange reserves, positioning the park as a crucial factor in the nation’s industrial and economic development.
