Right Honorable Mudashiru Obasa, the speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination for the House of Representatives in the Agege Federal Constituency for the 2027 elections.
A large crowd of devoted supporters gathered in Agege on Saturday, May 16, as the speaker was confirmed as the consensus candidate for the Agege Federal Constituency seat.
The seamless main activity saw official members in large numbers endorse his candidacy, highlighting the power of his local backing.
The news emerges only a few days following Obasa’s statement on May 13 during a meeting with stakeholders in Agege, where he expressed his intention to run for the federal position.
During that previous gathering, he stated that his choice was influenced by requests from party officials and interested parties who felt he could better assist Agege at the national stage.
“I responded to the call from our leaders and stakeholders who believe I am capable of serving Agege more effectively. We need to put forward candidates who have the ability, dedication, and commitment to the development of Agege,” Obasa stated.
At the initial election, Obasa thanked his constituents for the strong backing they provided.
“I am profoundly honored by the trust placed in me by our leaders and members. Today’s recognition is not solely about me; it represents our shared commitment to keep developing Agege and Lagos State based on the principles of progress and growth,” he said.
He also promised to keep his work centered on the people: “My dedication has always been to serve with honesty, to give a platform to our community’s voices, and to make sure Agege remains strong among other constituencies. This recognition reinforces my determination to provide greater benefits of democracy.”
Party leaders commended the calm nature of the event, highlighting that it demonstrated the solidarity and order inside the APC in Agege.
Observers also highlighted Obasa’s previous support for Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi in the Agege Constituency I and Hon. Azeez Oladapo Yusuf Ninolowo in the Agege Constituency II as proof of his larger plan to strengthen party unity.
Following the conclusion of the primary, Obasa is poised to represent the APC in the upcoming general election, a step that many anticipate will strengthen the party’s hold in Agege.
