The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced a three-day period of prayer and fasting across the country, regardless of religious affiliation, aimed at promoting peace, restoration, and unity in Nigeria.
The choice to announce the three-day period of prayer and fasting was made at a gathering of the PFN’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Friday, May 8, with worries raised about the present condition of the country.
In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja, the National Publicity Secretary of PFN, Dr. Sylvanus Ukafia, expressed deep worry over the increasing instability throughout the nation, ongoing violence and loss of life, assaults on villages and religious sites, economic struggles affecting countless Nigerians, escalating social conflicts, and fears regarding the country’s political outlook and the coming elections.
The Christian community stated: “In a deliberate attempt to request God’s assistance in bringing about peace, restoration, stability, and a prosperous future for Nigeria, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has announced a three-day period of prayer and fasting across the country, regardless of church affiliation.”
The choice of the spiritual retreat, starting on Friday, May 22 and concluding on Sunday, May 24, 2026, was made at a gathering of the PFN’s National Executive Council (NEC) on Friday, May 8, during which worries about the present condition of the country were raised.
At the gathering, the PFN expressed deep worry about the increasing instability throughout the nation, ongoing violence and loss of life, assaults on communities and religious sites, economic struggles affecting millions of Nigerians, escalating social tensions, and worries about the country’s political future and the upcoming elections.
Being a group strongly dedicated to the spiritual well-being, unity, peace, and development of Nigeria, the Fellowship holds the view that this is a crucial time for the Church to come together in unity and prayer on behalf of the country.
The PFN stated that the fasting and prayer activity will take place on Global Pentecost Day and is based on the divine command found in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which urges God’s people to humble themselves, pray, seek His presence, and abandon evil paths so that He can restore the land.
The Christian community urged “all churches, pastors, Christian leaders, workers, young people, women, and followers throughout the country to engage actively and with prayer in this serious spiritual activity.”
It revealed that the first two days, Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, are set aside for fasting and prayer in homes, churches, and local groups throughout the nation. On Sunday, May 24, 2026, which is Global Pentecost Day, followers in each state are encouraged to come together at locations chosen by PFN State Executives for a unified national prayer gathering to wrap up the event.
“Topics to pray for encompass divine assistance for Nigeria, the restoration of peace and safety throughout the country, an end to bloodshed, violence, terrorism, and crime, economic recovery and support for distressed citizens, guidance, fairness, and solidarity among leaders, peaceful, legitimate, and non-violent elections, the rise of God-fearing and dedicated leaders, increased unity, renewal, and spiritual awakening within the Church and the nation,” PFN stated.
It stated that the PFN believes Nigeria is a country with a significant future and vast potential, and that through genuine repentance, unity, righteousness, and prayer, God will provide healing, restoration, and national renewal.
The Fellowship urges all Nigerians, particularly the Christian group, to unite during this critical moment with faith, love, and a strong sense of national dedication for the peace and future of our cherished nation.
“We are convinced that when the Church comes together in prayer, God will step in regarding the matters of our country and bestow Nigeria with peace, restoration, security, and a fresh period of hope,” the group stated.
Although it greatly values the support, collaboration, and guidance provided by pastors and Christian leaders throughout the country, the PFN encourages all involved parties to activate their congregations and connections to ensure complete involvement in the prayer and fasting events.
