A public opinion survey revealed that President Lee Jae Myung’s approval rating for his administration’s performance stood at 55.2%.
The poll, conducted by Realmeter on behalf of the Energy Economic Daily from the 1st to the 5th (excluding holidays), surveyed 2,013 national voters. The results showed the president’s approval rating fell by 3.9 percentage points compared to the previous week, settling at 55.2%. This marks the third consecutive weekly decline since his rating peaked at 60.5% in the second week of May.
Realmeter stated, “The approval rating dropped sharply from the latter half of the week following the local elections, as administrative responsibility for the ballot shortage incident on June 3rd and criticism toward the government—triggered by the Democratic Party’s failure to reclaim the Seoul mayoral seat—overlapped.” Daily trends showed lower ratings post-election: 55.5% on the 4th and 51.8% on the 5th, compared to 56.8% on the 1st and 58.8% on the 2nd, just before the elections.

In a separate party support survey of 1,004 voters conducted by the same agency on the 4th and 5th, the Democratic Party of Korea received 41.8%, while the People Power Party garnered 41.1%. Following them were the Rebuilding Korea Party (2.8%), Reform Party (2.5%), and Progressive Party (1.1%).
The Democratic Party’s support dropped by 3.1 percentage points from the previous week, while the People Power Party rose by 2.6 percentage points. This narrowed the gap between the two parties to within the margin of error—a first in five months.

Realmeter explained, “Although the Democratic Party secured 12 metropolitan mayoral seats in the local elections, its failure to reclaim the symbolically significant Seoul mayoral seat and losses in key battlegrounds like Busan Buk-gu Gap and Pyeongtaek led to a notable exodus of moderates and voters in their 30s. Meanwhile, the People Power Party, bolstered by Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s victory in Seoul, established a focal point for its economic policies centered on the capital. It also defended critical battlegrounds such as Pyeongtaek Gap and the Daegu mayoral race, laying the groundwork for conservative revival.”
The survey used an ARS method with wireless random digit dialing. The response rate for the presidential approval rating was 5.7%, with a sampling error of ±2.2 percentage points at a 95% confidence level. For party support, the response rate was 5.6%, with a sampling error of ±3.1 percentage points at the same confidence level.
