Chebet, who was pursuing a Certificate in Healthcare Services Support (Nurse Aide), fell ill during her clinical placement at RAM Memorial Hospital in Kisii. She was later transferred to Longisa Hospital, where she eventually succumbed to her condition. The institution shared the news of her passing with a heartfelt statement, highlighting her remarkable character and the lasting impression she left on both her peers and lecturers.
The college described Mercy as a student with an exceptional work ethic and a warm, caring nature. Her commitment to her studies and her genuine concern for others made her a valued member of the program. In a message posted on Facebook, the institution expressed its sorrow over her untimely death, acknowledging that it was a profound loss to the entire college community.
“Her untimely demise is a profound loss to the college community,” the statement read, reflecting the grief shared across the institution. The announcement was made on behalf of the college’s Board of Directors, management, staff, and students, all of whom extended their condolences to Chebet’s family, relatives, friends, and classmates.
