U.S. Coast Guard to Scour Sailboat for Clues in Lynette Hooker Disappearance
A significant new phase in the investigation into the vanishing of Lynette Hooker is set to unfold as the U.S. Coast Guard prepares to conduct a thorough search of the sailboat she shared with her husband, Brian Hooker. Lynette disappeared last month while the couple was on a sailing vacation in the Bahamas.
The American national was last seen as the pair was returning to their vessel, named “Soulmate,” in a dinghy on the Sea of Abaco. Following the incident, the U.S. Coast Guard seized the “Soulmate” after it departed Bahamian waters. The boat was initially docked in Fort Pierce, Florida, before being relocated to Fort Lauderdale, where it will now be meticulously examined for any evidence that could shed light on Lynette Hooker’s whereabouts.
“Any sort of digital devices that you can take, any computer systems that you can extract, anything of that sort, will be taken in,” explained Nicole Parker, a former FBI special agent and a contributor to Fox News, highlighting the scope of the potential evidence.
Further bolstering the investigative efforts, Bahamian officials have reportedly given the green light for the U.S. to deploy a dive team. This team is expected to scour the waters where Lynette Hooker was last seen, with the dual objectives of searching for crucial evidence and, if tragically necessary, recovering her body.
The decision to focus the dive team’s efforts on a specific area stems from GPS data retrieved from the “Soulmate.” Investigators have noted that this GPS data appears to contradict the account provided by Brian Hooker regarding the location where his wife allegedly fell overboard. His initial statement placed the incident in a different section of the Sea of Abaco.
Brian Hooker’s account states that Lynette fell out of their dinghy while they were en route back to their sailboat. He further claimed that she was in possession of the dinghy’s engine key when she disappeared, which he asserts prevented him from immediately starting the engine and reaching her. He reported that he was forced to paddle the vessel ashore before he could alert authorities.
Brian Hooker, who has consistently denied any wrongdoing, was detained by Bahamian authorities on April 8 as part of the initial investigation. He was held for five days before being released from custody. In April, he spoke with NBC News, stating, “I’ve never harmed Lynette, and I would never harm Lynette, and I want to find Lynette.”
Family Dynamics and Past Incidents Under Scrutiny
The circumstances surrounding Lynette’s disappearance have also brought to light past issues within the couple’s relationship. Karli Aylesworth, Lynette’s daughter, shared with NBC News that her mother and Brian Hooker had a “history of not getting along, especially when they drink.”
Records indicate a previous incident in 2015 where Lynette Hooker was arrested on charges of assault and battery/simple assault. A police report from that time revealed that both Lynette and Brian Hooker had accused each other of assault. Ultimately, an arrest warrant for Lynette was denied due to insufficient evidence to determine who initiated the altercation.
It is important to note that Brian Hooker has not been formally charged with any crimes, nor has he been officially accused of any wrongdoing in connection with his wife’s disappearance.
Attorneys representing Brian Hooker have been contacted for comment. Terrel Butler, Hooker’s legal counsel, has previously stated that his client “categorically and unequivocally denies any wrongdoing” and has been fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Butler elaborated, “His primary concern and source of intense frustration is his inability to continue the search for his wife of 25 years. The trauma of her disappearance, coupled with his current detention as a suspect, has left him in an extremely fragile state.”
Prior to this tragic event, the couple was known for their YouTube channel, “The Sailing Hookers,” where they documented their extensive travel experiences, often centred around their love for sailing. The channel showcased their adventures and provided a glimpse into their life on the water. The ongoing investigation aims to piece together the events of that fateful day and bring clarity to the concerning disappearance of Lynette Hooker.
