A man in his 30s who claimed compensation for supposed foreign materials in cup noodles and the lack of meat in stir-fried pork received a prison sentence in both the initial trial and the appeal.

The Chuncheon Branch Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul High Court, presided over by Judge Lee Eun-hye, rejected the appeal filed by A (38), who faced charges of attempted extortion and other related offenses, and confirmed the initial sentence of two years in prison, according to an announcement made on the 17th.

A allegedly created a disturbance for 20 minutes at a store in October 2024, stating, “I purchased cup noodles in August, and a foreign object led to stomach pain that required hospitalization. I demand compensation for the damages.”

It was discovered that A also caused a one-hour disruption at a restaurant, stating, “Three weeks ago, I ordered stir-fried pork, but there was no meat. Either pay me or prepare the dish according to my wishes.” He was also found to have carried out similar actions at a beauty salon and another restaurant.

In the initial trial, A stated, “I only raised valid complaints or requested compensation,” however, the court responded, “Due to the recurring pattern of similar offenses, the likelihood of reoffending is significant,” and consequently handed down a prison sentence.

The higher court also mentioned, “We examined the argument that the sentence was overly harsh, but the initial ruling was reasonable.”
