The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has reactivated its online application system, offering students who completed Form Four in 2025 the chance to update their university preferences or apply for the first time.
On Saturday, May 16, KUCCPS released a statement indicating that the portal would stay accessible until May 22, after the first application period ended on May 6. Students who had obtained temporary admission to degree programs were informed through SMS, with their KUCCPS accounts updated accordingly. Those who did not succeed were advised to use the six-day period to modify their choices. Mercy Wahome, CEO of KUCCPS, urged eligible applicants to access the system and reapply.
As the placement process started, 212,510 applicants who achieved a C+ or higher in the 2025 KCSE have applied, accounting for 79.1% of the 268,714 students who are eligible. Popular programs like Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Engineering were oversubscribed in the initial round and have consequently been removed from the portal, with KUCCPS urging students to explore other options.
Besides university admissions, KUCCPS stated that enrollment in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges, Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC), and Kenya Utalii College is still taking place. TVET programs are delivered in modules, while KMTC offers diploma courses in fields like Community Health, Mortuary Science, Health Records and Information Technology, Medical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Physiotherapy, and Public Health, along with eight certificate programs. These continue to accept applications on a continuous basis until all positions are filled, although Nursing, Clinical Medicine, and Pharmacy will only be available for the September intake.
At Kenya Utalii College, students have the option to enroll in courses such as the Diploma in Housekeeping and Laundry Management, Certificate in Front Office Operations, and Certificate in Housekeeping and Laundry Operations. These programs are open to applicants who took the KCSE examination between 2000 and 2025.
To assist applicants, KUCCPS and KMTC have assigned career guidance officers to 23 KMTC campuses throughout the country and have collaborated with the Huduma Kenya Secretariat to provide services at all Huduma Centres nationwide.
