MTN Uganda and Infobip Forge Digital Transformation Alliance for Businesses

MTN Uganda is accelerating its evolution from a traditional telecommunications provider to a comprehensive technology solutions platform with a strategic partnership with Infobip. This collaboration aims to equip Ugandan businesses with advanced digital communication tools, marking a significant step in empowering enterprises to navigate the increasingly digital landscape.

The core of this partnership lies in providing Ugandan businesses with access to an integrated communications platform. This unified system consolidates various communication channels, including SMS, WhatsApp, voice calls, email, and chat applications. The objective is to enable companies to automate critical customer support functions, foster meaningful two-way customer engagement, and gain real-time insights into customer interactions.

This strategic move by MTN Uganda is a direct response to the escalating demand from businesses looking to transcend basic bulk messaging. Companies are increasingly prioritizing sophisticated digital customer engagement strategies as competition intensifies across diverse sectors such as retail, banking, fintech, healthcare, and logistics. MTN asserts that this new platform is engineered to help businesses connect with their customers more rapidly, enhance the quality of their service delivery, and facilitate expansion without the burden of developing and maintaining separate systems for each communication avenue.

Ibrahim Senyonga, MTN Uganda’s General Manager for Enterprise Business, underscored the significance of this partnership within the company’s long-term vision. “Digital communication is becoming central to how businesses engage their customers and deliver services,” Senyonga stated. “Through our partnership with Infobip, MTN Uganda is strengthening its role as a technology partner to enterprises by providing innovative platforms that help businesses improve customer experiences, increase efficiency, and unlock new growth opportunities.”

The platform introduces full omnichannel capabilities, seamlessly integrating channels like WhatsApp, AI-powered chatbots, and automated customer conversations into a single, cohesive service layer. Senyonga elaborated on the strategic depth of the collaboration, noting, “This partnership is beyond technical. It is more strategic in nature from where we sit. We want that to trickle down to our customers, to drive that transformation, to empower them, to become bigger, to accelerate this 10x program that government is talking about.”

Senyonga further articulated how enhanced digital capabilities within Ugandan businesses can significantly contribute to the nation’s broader economic expansion ambitions. By boosting operational efficiency and broadening the base of tax-paying enterprises, a stronger digital economy can pave the way for substantial national growth. “If our clients become much bigger, that means they can pay more to you in terms of taxes. They can contribute more because to move from $50 billion as a nation to $500 billion, there is a lot of work that has to happen,” he explained.

For MTN, this alliance also unlocks enhanced access to highly regulated sectors, including banking, fintech, and government entities, where stringent compliance standards are paramount. Senyonga highlighted that Infobip’s platform was a deliberate choice, partly due to its robust compliance architecture and its proven ability to integrate seamlessly within complex, regulated customer environments.

Infobip’s Global Director for Telecom Strategy and Partnerships, Domenico Devescovi, commented on the unique market dynamics in Uganda. He pointed out that the country’s predominantly young, mobile-first population makes digital engagement an increasingly critical factor for business competitiveness.

“We are excited to partner with MTN Uganda to support the digital transformation of business sector in Uganda,” Devescovi said. “By combining MTN’s strong network infrastructure with Infobip’s AI-powered customer engagement technology, businesses across Uganda will be able to connect with customers across multiple channels and create richer, more connected customer experiences.”

A key component of this rollout is AgentOS, Infobip’s sophisticated artificial intelligence platform. AgentOS is specifically designed to automate customer service workflows, orchestrate responses across various communication channels, and significantly reduce the manual workload for businesses.

“It allows businesses to automate tasks, personalize customer interactions, and streamline CX management,” Devescovi added. “This launch marks a significant step forward in delivering smarter, more efficient customer engagement at scale.”

At the enterprise level, MTN emphasizes that the service will not be offered as a one-size-fits-all product. Instead, it will be meticulously adapted to the specific needs of each business, taking into account their industry sector and current level of digital maturity.

Sophia Mukasa, Senior Manager for Products, Marketing and Partnerships at MTN Business, noted that many Ugandan firms currently operate with fragmented communication systems, where SMS, voice, and social media engagement are managed in isolation.

“In practical terms, this partnership enables businesses and organizations of all sizes to communicate more effectively with their customers, with their teams, with their communities, basically with their ecosystem on one platform,” Mukasa explained.

She highlighted the platform’s particular relevance for a wide range of businesses, including traders, Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs), healthcare providers, and informal businesses. These entities increasingly rely on platforms like WhatsApp and mobile communication for effective customer management. “Customers want to be engaged. So if your customers are on WhatsApp, then you have to be on WhatsApp to engage them,” she concluded.

This significant partnership aligns with Uganda’s national development objectives, which place technology at the forefront of driving productivity and economic growth through digital transformation initiatives.
