The Delta State Police Command reports that its officers have detained seven individuals and seized two guns along with eight live bullets during various intelligence-driven operations throughout the state.

The statement was released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, revealing this information.

Edafe mentioned that the operations were part of continuous initiatives to combat cult activities, unlawful firearm possession, and other violent offenses in Delta State.

He mentioned that an investigation was underway to establish the suspects’ potential connection to recent cult-related killings and other violent incidents in Eku, Igun, Abraka, and nearby areas, noting that measures were being stepped up to capture additional members of the group who had fled.

During a different operation, Edafe mentioned that members of the Safe Delta team based at the Head Bridge nipping point stopped and searched a suspect named Mokwunye Prince Jerry, 32, on May 13, 2026, around 3:40 p.m.

He stated that the suspect, who was on a motorcycle and holding a sack, was searched and discovered to have six packets of live ammunition.

According to the police spokesperson, initial inquiry found that the suspect reportedly claimed to be part of a hunters/vigilante group in Ibusa and also mentioned that an individual named Anthony, who is still at large, instructed him to gather the ammunition.

Police Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi praised the officers for their effective operations and emphasized the department’s dedication to fighting cult activities, illegal gun ownership, and other violent crimes within the state.

He also encouraged locals to stay alert and keep providing the police with accurate and prompt information to assist in current operations and improve community safety.
