A man is currently fighting for his life following a serious incident in the heart of Brisbane’s Central Business District. The collision occurred around 9:20 PM on Saturday at the crossroads of George Street and Turbot Street, close to the Magistrate’s Court building.

The pedestrian involved in the crash sustained severe injuries and was immediately transported to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. Authorities have confirmed that they are conducting an investigation into the incident and have already spoken with the bus driver.

Police have urged anyone who witnessed the collision or possesses any video footage from the area to come forward and assist with their inquiry. By Sunday morning, the road had been cleared, and there were no visible signs of the crash remaining.

Brisbane has experienced several tragic incidents involving council buses in recent years, highlighting concerns about road safety in the city. In March 2024, 18-year-old Tia Cameron lost her life in a crash on Edward Street. Later that same year, in June, a 44-year-old man died after being struck by a bus on Melbourne Street in South Brisbane.

In May 2021, 20-year-old Max McDowall from Greenslopes passed away after his bicycle collided with a bus at the intersection of Gillingham and O’Keefe Streets in Woolloongabba. Another tragic incident occurred in 2018 when 51-year-old Ann-Marie Stent, a mother of two, was killed after being hit by a bus on Ann Street.

These incidents underscore the ongoing need for increased awareness and measures to prevent such tragedies. As investigations continue, the community remains concerned about the safety of pedestrians and cyclists in busy urban areas.

  • The location of the recent crash highlights the high traffic volume in the CBD.
  • The police’s call for witnesses reflects the importance of public cooperation in understanding the circumstances of the incident.
  • The history of similar crashes in Brisbane raises questions about the effectiveness of current road safety protocols.

As the city continues to grow, it is essential for authorities to review and improve measures that protect all road users. The loss of life in these incidents serves as a reminder of the human cost of road accidents and the need for vigilance and proactive action.
