The Nigerian Police Force has verified the passing of 17 personnel after a terrorist incident at the Nigerian Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, within the Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The assault, which took place in the early morning of May 8, focused on the military training center where the officers were receiving advanced operational instruction.

A statement released on Friday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), DCP Anthony Okon Placide, indicated that the militants carried out a synchronized attack on the facility from several angles around 1:15am.

The statement cited the IGP as stating that the deceased officers “showed remarkable patriotism and dedication to national security by taking part in high-level counter-terrorism and tactical training initiatives.”

He expressed the sympathy of the Force to the grieving families, promising them that the sacrifices made by the fallen officers would not be overlooked.

In a gesture to demonstrate support for the impacted staff, the Police Commissioner of Yobe State, CP Usman Kanfani Jibrin, paid a visit to the training center on behalf of the IGP.

While visiting, Jibrin expressed sympathy to the school’s Commandant, Brig.-Gen. A.C. Enuagu, Nigerian Army officers, and remaining police personnel undergoing training at the institution.

He also praised the strength of the surviving officers and encouraged them to stay dedicated to finishing the training program in memory of their deceased peers.

The police reassured Nigerians that security organizations are increasing their efforts to locate and prosecute those accountable for the attack.

“The Nigeria Police Force honors the bravery, sacrifice, and commitment of the deceased officers, whose devotion to their responsibilities will always be remembered by the country,” the statement further noted.
