From Scotland’s First Minister to Hollywood’s Next Big Name? Sturgeon Signs with Elite Talent Agency
Former First Minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, has stepped into a new arena, signing with a prestigious London-based talent firm, United Agents. This move places her alongside an impressive roster of international stars, including Hollywood heavyweights like Keira Knightley and Kate Winslet, as well as acclaimed actors Olivia Colman and Eddie Redmayne, and comedian James Corden.

The signing with United Agents, a leading literary and talent agency representing a diverse range of professionals from actors and comedians to authors and directors, signals Sturgeon’s intent to explore new opportunities beyond her political career. Having stepped down as an MSP earlier this year and recently concluded a nationwide tour promoting her memoir, ‘Frankly’, the 55-year-old appears poised for a new chapter.
However, the transition hasn’t been without its minor hiccups. A recent social media post by United Agents, intended to promote Sturgeon’s appearance on ITV’s interview series ‘The Assembly’ back in April, notably misspelled her name as ‘Nichola Sturgeon’. This oversight was particularly apparent given that the post also displayed Sturgeon’s correct Instagram handle, ‘@nicolasturgeon’.
Speculation has been rife for some time regarding the potential media ventures Sturgeon might pursue. Earlier in the year, she faced criticism from political opponents after being observed being followed by a film crew within the Scottish Parliament. This led to suggestions that she was collaborating on a media project while still receiving her MSP salary of £74,000.
Navigating New Ventures Amidst Scrutiny
The move into new media and entertainment avenues has drawn sharp commentary from various political quarters. Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie voiced her opinion, stating that Sturgeon had “barely contributed” to Holyrood in her final three years, instead focusing on book festivals and television appearances. Baillie pointed to a £25,000 payment Sturgeon received for her role as a pundit on ITV’s coverage of the 2024 General Election night.
“It has been clear for some time that Nicola Sturgeon’s ambitions lay elsewhere,” Baillie remarked, “so it is no surprise that she is already eyeing up a cushy presenting role.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Scottish Conservative MSP Annie Wells commented on Sturgeon’s apparent affinity for the camera. “Nicola Sturgeon has never seen a camera she didn’t like – so it’s hardly surprising she’s trying to line up a lucrative TV gig,” Wells stated. She added, “The former SNP leader should have spent her last few months at Holyrood representing her constituents, not feathering her nest for when she can no longer milk the taxpayer for a salary.”
Financial Disclosures and Future Prospects
Sturgeon’s recent parliamentary register of interests has provided some insight into her financial dealings related to her post-political career activities. She declared a £75,000 payment from publisher Pan Macmillan as an initial advance for her book, ‘Frankly’.
Further details emerged regarding her private company, Nicola Sturgeon Ltd. In July of last year, the company incurred expenses of £6,213 for “clothing, styling and personal items” used during her promotional tour for the book. Additionally, her company made dividend payments totalling £30,000.
The signing with United Agents marks a significant professional pivot for Nicola Sturgeon. As she embarks on this new phase, the public and political spheres will undoubtedly be watching closely to see what opportunities unfold with her representation by one of the world’s leading talent agencies. The move suggests a strategic approach to leveraging her public profile and experience in new and potentially lucrative ways.
