Pakistan, May 17 — President Asif Ali Zardari stated that the federal administration, working alongside provincial authorities, continues to be dedicated to initiatives that increase digital availability and enhance network coverage throughout the nation.

In a statement for World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, he stated, “I send my greetings to Pakistan’s telecommunications sector and everyone involved in enhancing the nation’s digital framework.”

The theme for this year, Digital Lifelines: Enhancing Resilience in an Interconnected World, highlights the increasing significance of dependable and available connectivity in daily life. Digital systems currently facilitate education, healthcare, trade, banking, and government services. For numerous individuals, particularly those residing in isolated and underserved regions, connectivity now influences their access to opportunities and information,” he mentioned.

He stated, “The telecommunications industry in Pakistan remains a major driver of national progress. In the fiscal year 2024-25, the sector drew in USD 838 million in investments and earned revenues amounting to PKR 1,075 billion. Pakistan currently has over 205 million telecom users and more than 161 million broadband subscribers, backed by a growing fiber optic network, submarine cable systems, and widespread mobile coverage.”

The completion of Pakistan’s IMT/5G Spectrum Auction in March 2026 represented a significant milestone for the nation’s digital progress. The auction generated USD 509.6 million for the national government and increased spectrum access for mobile service providers, laying the groundwork for quicker and more dependable advanced services,” he mentioned.

He stated, “Thanks to the Universal Service Fund, broadband and phone services have been made available to millions in previously underserved regions. Initiatives are also being carried out to expand fiber optic infrastructure, encourage investment, and complete regulations for satellite communications in remote areas.”

He recognized the contributions of the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, mobile network providers, and all parties involved in enhancing Pakistan’s digital environment.

“Secure and cost-effective internet access will continue to be crucial for economic development, public services, and broader opportunities for every citizen in Pakistan,” he concluded.
