The flight departing from Melbourne was en route to Dallas on Friday when it had to make an unscheduled stop in Papeete, the capital of French Polynesia, because of a troublesome passenger.

The individual was held back by other travelers, with local media, including the national broadcaster ABC, stating that he bit a Qantas employee.

The individual was greeted by local officials upon arrival and has received a ban from flying on any Qantas aircraft.

A Qantas representative stated on Sunday that the safety of our passengers and staff is our top concern, and we do not accept any disruptive or intimidating conduct during flights.
