…supports Airbus hangar project for Nigeria

President Bola Tinubu has urged the quick provision of attack helicopters that Nigeria has already ordered, while supporting a plan from global aircraft company Airbus to set up maintenance and hangar facilities within the nation.

The leader stated that Nigeria urgently needs modern helicopters and aircraft to enhance current security efforts and aid in wider national development goals.

Tinubu addressed a gathering with an Airbus team, headed by the firm’s Regional Business Growth Director for Africa and the Middle East, Thierry Cloutet, on the margins of the current Africa CEO Forum in Kigali, Rwanda.

The financial options considered involved export credit methods, sale-and-lease-back models, and extended aviation funding solutions aimed at enhancing aircraft availability for local operators and easing monetary challenges within the industry.

In an effort to enhance cooperation with the company, the President also proposed the creation of an aviation leasing firm in Nigeria, aiming to capitalize on opportunities throughout the aviation industry and enhance financial accessibility for local operators.

Tinubu restated his government’s dedication to enhancing relations with Airbus and utilizing the firm’s knowledge in military aviation and aerospace progress.

Cloutet praised the government’s economic reforms and initiatives focused on stabilizing Nigeria’s aviation industry, reiterating Airbus’ dedication to aiding the nation’s future aerospace goals.

He suggested a “360-degree engagement” model concerning Nigeria, encompassing commercial aviation, collaboration on military aircraft, development of human resources, sustainability projects, operational centers, and maintenance facilities.

As per his statement, the partnership structure would also encompass cooperation in satellite and Earth monitoring technology.
