The Moroccan under-17 national football team beat the Ethiopian under-17 national team 2-1 on Saturday at the Mohammed VI Football Academy, securing a shared top position in Group A at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
Ethiopia scored first in the 24th minute via Dawit Kassaw, while Morocco retaliated after halftime with heightened offensive efforts. Ahmed Moustache leveled the match in the 49th minute as the home team aimed for a second goal.
Morocco increased the intensity towards the end of the game, with Imrane Talai netting the decisive goal in stoppage time during the 91st minute, ensuring a vital win for the Atlas Cubs.
As a result, Morocco climbed to the top of Group A with four points, tied with the Egypt national under-17 football team. The Tunisia national under-17 football team is in third place with one point, leading Ethiopia based on goal difference.
Morocco is organizing the regional youth championship as part of wider initiatives to enhance its football facilities and youth training programs in preparation for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which it will jointly host with Spain and Portugal.
