Tragic Collision Claims Three Lives on Dhaka-Rangpur Highway
A devastating road accident in Pirganj upazila, Rangpur, early Friday morning has resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left at least 14 others injured. The collision, which occurred at approximately 5:30 AM, involved a passenger bus and a truck on the busy Dhaka-Rangpur Highway, specifically in front of the Pirganj Petrol Pump.
The victims have been identified as Rahima Akhter Munni, a 35-year-old from Gazipur, Abdul Razzaq Howladar, a 55-year-old resident of Haragachh in Kaunia upazila, Rangpur, and his 22-year-old son, Arafat Sani Sanvi.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Catastrophe
Eyewitness accounts and police reports suggest a chain reaction of collisions initiated the fatal incident. The sequence of events unfolded as follows:
- Initial Impact: A truck, for reasons yet to be fully determined, collided with the rear of another truck already on the highway. This initial impact caused significant damage to the front section of the striking truck.
- High-Speed Collision: Shortly thereafter, a Hanif Paribahan passenger bus, reportedly traveling at a high speed, crashed into the rear of the now-damaged truck. The force of this impact was substantial.
Immediate Aftermath and Fatalities
The severe impact of the bus hitting the truck had immediate and tragic consequences. Rahima Akhter Munni, a passenger on the bus, was tragically killed at the scene of the accident.
Critically injured individuals were swiftly attended to by emergency responders. Abdul Razzaq Howladar was transported to the Pirganj Upazila Health Complex for urgent medical attention. His son, Arafat Sani Sanvi, was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals, both Abdul Razzaq Howladar and Arafat Sani Sanvi were later declared dead by doctors.
Disruption and Rescue Operations
The collision caused a significant and temporary disruption to traffic flow on the vital Dhaka-Rangpur Highway. Commuters faced delays as authorities worked to clear the scene. However, normal traffic movement was eventually restored.
Upon receiving notification of the accident, law enforcement and rescue teams from the Baradargah Highway Police Station were immediately dispatched to the location. They commenced rescue operations, working to assist the injured and secure the accident site.
Official Response and Ongoing Investigation
Maruf Hossain, the Officer-in-Charge of the Baradargah Highway Police Station, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the injured had been transported to various medical facilities for treatment. He also indicated that legal proceedings are underway in connection with the incident. The authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the causes of the accident to determine accountability and implement measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future. The focus remains on supporting the families of the victims and ensuring the recovery of those injured.
