The screenplay book for director Ryu Seung-wan’s film Humint has recently been released by Park Jeong-min’s publishing company, ‘Muje’. This publication offers a comprehensive look into the creative process behind the film, featuring Ryu’s original screenplay, detailed storyboards, still cuts, and an essay by Park Jeong-min. The book serves as a valuable resource for fans and film enthusiasts who are interested in understanding the artistic vision that shaped Humint.
In the preface of the book, Ryu expressed his gratitude to Park Jeong-min, stating, “Thank you, Park Jeong-min CEO.” He also added a humble note, saying, “I’m sorry for not writing a wonderful preface” and promising, “I will repay you by making an even more amazing film next time.” This personal touch highlights the collaborative relationship between the director and the publisher.
Park Jeong-min, who played the role of North Korean operative Park Geon, shared his perspective on the film. He mentioned, “I did my best to embody Park Geon at the time. The fact that I could portray a character rushing toward a single person alone made Humint deeply meaningful to me.” His insights provide a deeper understanding of the emotional and psychological layers involved in his performance.
The book also includes a self-written statement from Chae Seon-hwa, portrayed by Shin Sae-kyeong, who plays Park Geon’s love interest. In her statement, she reflects on her character’s relationships: “There was someone who fell for me after watching my recital and confessed. They gave me a bouquet on my way out and disappeared, but their determined gaze stayed in my memory.” This personal account adds a human element to the narrative, offering a glimpse into the emotional journey of the character.
Additionally, the book features various props that contributed to the film’s authenticity. These include Assistant Director Jo’s ID card (played by Zo In-sung), Chae Seon-hwa’s gift box, and character materials for Park Geon. These items are presented as photographs, allowing readers to appreciate the attention to detail that went into the production.
Stills capturing the film’s vivid atmosphere, taken by photographer Kim Jin-young and Park Jeong-min, are also included. These images serve as visual representations of the film’s mood and style, enhancing the reader’s experience.
