A Visionary Leader and His Lasting Impact

Justus Olugbenga Daniel has carved a unique path through both the corporate and political spheres, leaving an indelible mark on Ogun State and beyond. Starting as a successful businessman, he founded Kresta Laurel, Nigeria’s leading brand in elevators, escalators, and associated engineering configurations, at the age of 34. This venture not only solidified his business acumen but also contributed significantly to the technological and economic growth of the country.

His transition into politics was marked by a strong commitment to public service. Daniel served two terms as the Governor of Ogun State from 2003 to 2011 and was later elected as the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly in 2023. His journey into politics was not accidental but driven by a deep-seated desire to give back to society.

The Gateway Front Foundation: A Platform for Change

Daniel’s dedication to societal upliftment is evident through the establishment of the Gateway Front Foundation (GFF). This organization has been instrumental in providing support to the less privileged and has served as a platform that helped him connect with the people of Ogun State. Through GFF, Daniel built a strong relationship with the community, which eventually paved the way for his rise to the highest political office in the state.

During his tenure as governor, Daniel led a people-oriented administration, focusing on policies that reflected compassion and a human face. His governance style was characterized by a hands-on approach, ensuring that every aspect of development was carefully considered and implemented. By visiting every ward in Ogun State multiple times, he demonstrated his commitment to understanding the needs of his constituents.

Infrastructure Development and Social Responsibility

One of Daniel’s most notable achievements was his emphasis on infrastructure development while ensuring that the rights and welfare of the people were protected. He believed that developmental projects should not displace communities without providing alternatives. This philosophy was exemplified during the construction of the Abeokuta-Siun-Sagamu Expressway in 2004, where new houses were constructed for affected villagers before their old homes were demolished. The project also included streetlights and a beautifully designed divider, showcasing the state’s commitment to quality infrastructure.

The legacies of Daniel’s eight years in power are still visible today. From the revitalization of Egbaland to the establishment of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic in Itori, his contributions have become signposts of progress in Ogun State. The Yewaland region, once overlooked, now benefits from a School of Nursing, an international-standard stadium, and a thriving Free Trade Zone.

Educational and Economic Advancements

Under Daniel’s leadership, Ogun State became a hub for educational and economic advancements. The Human Capital Development (HUCAP) initiative sent many indigenes abroad for higher education, and some have returned to contribute to the state’s development. Additionally, the establishment of various institutions, such as the Tai Solarin University of Education, has enhanced the state’s academic landscape.

The conducive business environment created under Daniel’s administration attracted investors and entrepreneurs, leading to job creation and economic expansion. The Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corp (TRACE), still operational today, is another testament to his forward-thinking approach.

Resilience and Continued Political Influence

Despite facing numerous challenges, including attempts to undermine his administration, Daniel remained resilient. His transparent governance and the people’s appreciation of his work ensured that he emerged unscathed. His political influence continued to grow, leading him to coordinate the 2018 campaign for Atiku Abubakar and later join the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

As a Senator, Daniel has continued to advocate for the development of the South-West. His sponsorship of the South-West Development Commission bill (SB 102) has institutionalized federal funding for infrastructure across the region. Through various projects, including road constructions and solar light installations, he has delivered tangible benefits to his constituents.

Shaping the Future of Democracy

Daniel’s contributions extend beyond infrastructure and policy. Through the establishment of the Political Academy (POLA), he is fostering the next generation of political leaders and promoting democratic values. His efforts to deepen democracy and strengthen Project Nigeria reflect his vision for a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria.

A Legacy of Excellence

Justus Olugbenga Daniel’s legacy of good governance, infused with compassion and dedication, remains imperishable in Ogun State. His impact continues to resonate beyond the state’s borders, and his work as a Senator in the National Assembly underscores his commitment to representing the interests of his people.

We celebrate H.E Otunba Justus Gbenga Daniel, a visionary leader whose contributions as a businessman, politician, philanthropist, and patriot have left an enduring mark on Nigeria. On his 70th birthday, we honor his achievements and the lasting impact of his leadership.
