A Dramatic Rescue Operation in the Mountains of Iran
US special forces executed a daring and complex rescue mission to extract an airman trapped behind enemy lines in Iran. The operation involved hundreds of personnel, dozens of warplanes, and helicopters, showcasing the United States’ commitment to bringing its military personnel home safely.
The incident began when an F-15 fighter jet was shot down over a remote area of Iran on Friday. The pilot managed to eject and was rescued by two military helicopters the same day. However, the second crew member, a highly respected Colonel, remained missing for nearly two days. During this time, he evaded Iranian forces while being protected by Reaper drones overhead.
Armed with only a handgun and injured from his ejection, the Colonel used survival techniques to remain hidden in the mountains. He endured harsh conditions and reached elevations of around 7,000 feet to avoid capture. His escape lasted for 36 nerve-racking hours before US forces were able to locate and extract him.
The Complex Rescue Mission
The rescue mission required a coordinated effort across multiple branches of the US military. As the extraction unfolded, a firefight broke out between US forces and Iranian troops. Two of the five rescue planes became stuck in a remote airfield inside Iran and were destroyed by special forces to prevent them from falling into enemy hands. An MH-6 Little Bird helicopter was also destroyed after it was damaged during the operation.
According to reports, the US military deployed aircraft equipped with some of the most advanced weapons in the world to ensure the safety of the Colonel. President Donald Trump praised the operation as “one of the most daring Search and Rescue Operations in U.S. History.”
Iranian state media claimed that the IRGC and police forces had destroyed the US C-130 military aircraft that had flown into their airspace. However, US officials stated that the aircraft became stuck in sand on the runway and required three additional aircraft to complete the evacuation.

Deception and Strategy
The success of the operation was partly due to a CIA deception campaign. Intelligence agencies spread the word that US forces had already found the Colonel and were moving him, which confused Iranian forces and gave US troops a critical advantage.
Trump confirmed that the Colonel was injured but would be “just fine.” He emphasized that no American warfighters would ever be left behind, highlighting the significance of the rescue. He also mentioned that both pilots were rescued separately deep in enemy territory, marking a rare achievement in military history.
The pilot had been secretly rescued hours after the crash, but the operation was kept quiet to avoid jeopardizing the second rescue. Trump added that both operations were completed without a single American killed or wounded.

Escalation and Consequences
The downing of the F-15E jet marked the first US aircraft shot down since the start of the conflict. Iranian Revolutionary Guards took credit for the strike, sharing photos of the destroyed plane on state media with taunting captions. They described the jet as a “pile of scrap metal” and mocked the idea of its invincibility.
In response, Trump shared footage of what appeared to be an airstrike targeting top IRGC commanders. He also denied rumors that he was hospitalized, stating that he had not made public appearances for three days due to focusing on the conflict with Iran.
Iran placed a $60,000 bounty on the heads of the US airmen, vowing to seek revenge. Broadcasters urged locals near the crash site to seize the Americans, offering rewards for their capture. News channels flashed messages like “shoot them if you see them” and showed footage of villagers searching for the missing airman.

International Reactions and Ongoing Conflict
The rescue came as Iran launched missiles and drones at Israel and Kuwait early Sunday. Trump issued an ultimatum, giving Iran 48 hours to cut a deal or face “all Hell.” Iranian military officials rejected the threat, calling it “helpless, nervous, and stupid.”
Pakistan has offered to mediate efforts to end the conflict, with its foreign minister speaking to Iranian officials. However, violence continued, with Kuwait and Israel reporting air defense responses to Iranian attacks. The UAE and Bahrain also reported incidents linked to Iranian aggression.
Despite these developments, the focus remains on the successful rescue of the Colonel, a testament to the bravery and coordination of US military forces.
