Sydney Woman Attacked in Home Invasion by Dentist, Suspect Fatally Shot by Police
A harrowing home invasion in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has left a photographer and mother-of-three recovering from surgery after being violently attacked by a celebrity dentist. The assailant, identified as Dr Steven Lin, was subsequently shot and killed by police during a confrontation at the scene.
The incident unfolded at the Potts Point residence of Chloe Paul, a well-known photographer, who was reportedly working from home when Dr Lin allegedly forced his way into her unit. According to her family, Lin was demanding money during the terrifying ordeal.
Paul’s family recounted that Lin allegedly pinned her to the ground, subjecting her to a brutal assault that included beatings and an attempted strangulation. Fortunately, Paul’s background in boxing is credited with enabling her to break free from his grip and contact the authorities.
Following the attack, Ms Paul underwent surgery for a broken nose, a testament to the severity of the violence she endured.
The situation escalated further when Dr Lin, who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, also assaulted one of Ms Paul’s neighbours. This second assault occurred in the communal laundry room of the apartment building. Access to the secure complex was reportedly gained by Lin as he drove into the building while another resident was exiting.
Dr Steven Lin, aged 41, was not only a practising dentist but also the author of the book “The Dental Diet.” He was previously the proprietor of two successful dental practices located on the NSW Central Coast.
Beyond his professional life, Lin had cultivated a significant online presence, amassing a considerable following of over 250,000 Instagram users to whom he offered health advice.
Upon their arrival, police confronted Dr Lin. According to official reports, he allegedly lunged at officers armed with a knife. In response to this perceived threat, a Taser was deployed. However, authorities claim the Taser proved ineffective, leading to a single round being fired by an officer. The 41-year-old was pronounced deceased at the scene.
It is understood that the dentist may have barricaded himself inside one of the apartments during the approximately 10-minute incident. Reports suggest he did not have any prior connection to either of his victims.
In a concerning turn of events, it has emerged that Dr Lin had faced legal proceedings in recent years for a series of offences against women. These charges reportedly included stalking, assaults, choking, and breaches of apprehended violence orders.
A critical incident investigation has been launched by police to thoroughly examine the actions of the officers involved in the fatal shooting. This is standard procedure in such circumstances to ensure accountability and transparency.
