Aspiring African Filmmakers: Applications Open for Fully-Funded MultiChoice Talent Factory Programme

The MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF), a continent-wide initiative dedicated to nurturing the next generation of African filmmakers and storytellers, has officially opened applications for its 2026 intake. This prestigious, fully-funded programme invites ambitious graduates from across Africa to hone their skills and launch their careers in the dynamic world of film and television.

MTF is a network of academies strategically located in Kenya, Nigeria, and Zambia, offering aspiring talent from 14 African nations unparalleled practical training, invaluable industry exposure, and crucial access to professional networks. The programme is meticulously designed to equip participants with the essential tools and knowledge needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global entertainment landscape.

A Comprehensive Curriculum for a New Era of Storytelling

The 2026 intake will benefit from a significantly enhanced curriculum, meticulously crafted to strike a balance between robust theoretical understanding and hands-on practical immersion. This fully accredited nine-month programme is delivered through a flexible hybrid format, seamlessly integrating interactive online learning modules with intensive, in-person training sessions. This blended approach ensures that students receive a well-rounded education, adaptable to diverse learning styles and geographical locations.

The curriculum delves into various facets of filmmaking, including:

  • Directing: Understanding narrative, visual language, and working with actors.
  • Scriptwriting: Developing compelling stories, characters, and dialogue.
  • Producing: Mastering the business aspects of filmmaking, from budgeting to distribution.
  • Storytelling: Cultivating a unique voice and crafting impactful narratives.
  • Technical Skills: Gaining proficiency in camera operation, editing, sound design, and more.

Proven Success: A Track Record of Empowering Talent

Since its inception in 2018, the MultiChoice Talent Factory has demonstrably empowered a significant number of emerging filmmakers. To date, the programme has successfully trained 296 individuals, fostering a vibrant community of storytellers. The tangible impact of this training is evident in the impressive output of its graduates, with approximately 42 feature films already produced by alumni.

During their tenure at MTF, students gain profound insights into the intricate business of filmmaking, learning directly from some of the industry’s most respected and experienced professionals. A cornerstone of the programme is the requirement for participants to develop and produce their own projects. These graduate-produced films are not only a testament to their acquired skills but also receive valuable exposure, being aired on prominent DStv and GOtv channels, providing a crucial platform for their work.

Seize the Opportunity: Your Journey Starts Now

The MultiChoice Talent Factory represents a transformative opportunity for any African graduate with a passion for storytelling and a dream of making their mark in the film and television industry.
