Y’ello Ladies Network Celebrates a Year of Impact and Empowerment
The Y’ello Ladies Network, an all-encompassing employee group within MTN Ghana, has successfully marked its first anniversary. This dynamic organization, dedicated to fostering career development, mentorship, and leadership opportunities for women, convened to reflect on its significant achievements over the past twelve months.
Launched on March 25, 2025, the network has rapidly evolved into a vibrant and impactful community, demonstrating its commitment to both internal growth and broader societal contributions. The anniversary event, held in Accra, served as a platform to showcase the tangible results of their collective efforts.
Key Achievements in the First Year:
- Significant Philanthropic Contributions: The Y’ello Ladies Network made a substantial donation of GH¢150,000 to the Breast Surgical Unit at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. This vital funding is earmarked to cover the treatment costs, including surgery, chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, for 14 patients battling breast cancer.
- Public Awareness and Education Support: In addition to direct patient support, the network also contributed GH¢50,000 to Breast Care International. This donation aims to bolster public education and awareness campaigns, crucial in the fight against breast cancer.
- Fundraising Success: The impressive financial contributions were realized through the dedicated efforts of MTN staff, partners, and stakeholders. These funds were primarily raised during activities organized for October Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which notably included a community health walk.
Antoinette Kwofie, the Chair of the Y’ello Ladies Network at MTN Ghana, expressed immense pride and excitement regarding the organization’s inaugural year. She highlighted the network’s transformation into a robust platform for personal and professional advancement.
“The network was established to promote career advancement, professional development, and empowerment for women across the organisation,” Kwofie stated. “The Women’s Network is open to all women, regardless of department, position, or tenure, providing a safe space for personal and professional growth.”
Following the network’s launch, a dedicated steering committee was formed. This committee, comprised of passionate representatives from diverse divisions within MTN Ghana, has been instrumental in guiding the group’s initiatives and strategic direction.
“We knew the network would be meaningful, but what we could never have imagined is the impact it would have,” Kwofie added. “The organisation looks forward to continued growth and contribution to Ghana’s people-centered culture and community initiatives.”
Leadership Endorsement and Vision for the Future:
The importance of diversity and inclusion within the workplace was a central theme, underscored by MTN CEO, Stephen Blewett. He commended the strength and unique contributions of women at MTN.
“You are strong women, our men are calm, and every one of you brings unique value and qualities that I admire in the way we run our business,” Blewett remarked.
He further emphasized the significant role women play in MTN’s leadership structure and overall success. “If you look at the women in my office, you can clearly see how much I appreciate the contributions of the women to MTN’s growth. We have an extremely strong woman in our leadership team, which is a testament to the success of MTN.”
Blewett attributed MTN’s continued success to the dedication of its passionate employees, with a particular nod to the invaluable contributions of women. He also reiterated the critical importance of mentorship in nurturing talent and fostering a supportive work environment.
