Police are investigating a troubling incident involving a group of e-bike riders who threw rocks at a bus on the Gold Coast, causing it to veer off the road and crash into a tree. The incident occurred around 11:23 pm on Saturday night on Teemangum Street in Currumbin.

According to reports, the group ambushed the passenger bus and began hurling stones at it. The driver, a woman, lost control of the vehicle, which was carrying five passengers. The bus crashed head-on into a tree, leading to the immediate response from emergency services.

The driver was taken to Robina Hospital for observation as a precaution. Police have confirmed that no serious injuries were reported, but they are urging anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the crash, or who has relevant dashcam or CCTV footage, to come forward,” a police statement said.

Tom Kinsey, the executive general manager of Kinetic – the company that operates the buses – released a statement expressing concern over the attack. He confirmed that none of the passengers on board were injured, but he emphasized the company’s strong disapproval of the incident.

“This was a deeply distressing incident for the bus driver and passengers involved, and we are in contact with those affected to offer our support,” Kinsey said.

“Attacks on our drivers and passengers are completely unacceptable. We strongly condemn any behaviour that puts the safety of our drivers, the passengers on board and the community at risk.

“We are working closely with Queensland Police as they investigate the matter.”
