Philadelphia on High Alert as Suspect Sought in Brutal Tow Truck Driver Murders
Philadelphia is gripped by fear and a heightened sense of urgency as authorities are actively searching for Najee Williams, a 27-year-old man described as “armed and dangerous.” Williams is the primary suspect in a chilling spree that has claimed the lives of two tow truck drivers in separate, violent incidents. Police believe these tragic events may be linked to a deeply entrenched dispute within the city’s tow truck industry.
The first victim, 20-year-old David Garcia-Morales, was discovered in December 2023 inside a towing vehicle. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds, including to his neck and thigh. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Garcia-Morales tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Just weeks later, in January, the city was shaken by a second fatal shooting. Aaron Whitfield, 25, was found inside another tow truck, having been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene. In this second incident, a 21-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released, was also shot in the leg. She was transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Commander Ernest Ransom of the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit has confirmed that Williams was present at both crime scenes and is believed to have committed both murders. Investigations have utilized surveillance footage, which reportedly shows Williams firing shots from a moving vehicle. Law enforcement is meticulously examining the possibility that these shootings are part of a wider conflict concerning towing operations in the city.
Adding another layer of complexity to the investigation, police are also exploring potential connections between these murders and a separate homicide case from November. Williams is known to own his own company, NKW Towing & Recovery LLC, which is a focal point of this inquiry. Commander Ransom indicated that while they are not yet prepared to definitively link the November murder to Williams, their investigation is actively pursuing this avenue.
Beyond the homicide charges, Williams faces a litany of other serious accusations. These include violating the Uniform Firearms Act, conspiracy, possession of criminal instruments, and recklessly endangering other individuals.

The tragic loss of David Garcia-Morales has left a profound void in the lives of those who knew him. His obituary paints a picture of a vibrant young man, remembered for his “social nature and amazing personality.” He is described as a “beloved son, brother, grandson, uncle and friend,” who consistently “brought light and laughter wherever he went.” His obituary further highlights his deep care for others and his “genuine heart that touched all who knew him,” emphasizing that his “kindness, warmth, and ability to connect with others will never be forgotten.”
Aaron Whitfield’s family has established a GoFundMe page in his honor, aiming to raise funds for his “life and memory.” As of Sunday, the campaign had garnered significant support, raising $10,531 towards their $11,000 goal. The description of the fundraiser portrays Whitfield as a “playful, hardworking individual who was loved dearly.” His mother, Kimberly Randleman, expressed her profound grief and disbelief to local news outlets, stating, “For Aaron to be murdered on the streets of Philadelphia while he was working, it’s unbelievable. It’s not fair. It’s not fair.”
The Philadelphia Police Department continues its exhaustive search for Najee Williams. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could aid in his apprehension. The city remains on edge as it awaits the resolution of this harrowing case and the capture of the suspect.
