Kano State Fire Service Reports 30 Fire Incidents in June
The Kano State Fire Service has revealed that it responded to 30 fire incidents across the state in June, resulting in five fatalities and the destruction of property valued at over N120.4 million. Despite the tragic losses, the agency managed to save property worth N481.8 million from these incidents.
The details were included in the Fire Service’s operational report for June, which was released on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Abdullahi. The report highlights not only the challenges faced during the month but also the efforts made to mitigate damage and protect lives.
According to the report, the Fire Service also conducted seven rescue operations and recorded one false alarm during the period. In addition, three individuals were successfully rescued from various emergency situations. These figures underscore the critical role the service plays in ensuring public safety and responding swiftly to emergencies.
Director’s Message: A Call for Vigilance
In response to the report, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, emphasized the importance of public awareness and caution when dealing with fire. He urged residents to exercise care while handling fire sources to prevent avoidable outbreaks.
Anas stated, “We urge members of the public to exercise caution when using fire and ensure that all sources of fire are completely extinguished after use to prevent avoidable fire outbreaks.” His message reflects a broader concern about the risks associated with improper fire management, especially in densely populated areas.
Addressing Drowning Risks
In addition to fire safety, the director also highlighted the need for vigilance regarding drowning incidents, particularly among children and young people. He called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and prevent them from playing around puddles, ponds, rivers, and uncovered wells.
Anas added, “Parents and guardians should closely supervise their children and prevent them from playing near puddles, ponds, rivers, or uncovered wells in order to reduce incidents of drowning, particularly among children and young people.” This appeal underscores the multifaceted nature of the Fire Service’s responsibilities, which extend beyond fire suppression to include water safety and community education.
