Introduction to the Vision BMW Alpina
The Vision BMW Alpina made its debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, an event held on the shores of Lake Como in Italy. This concept car serves as a glimpse into the future design direction of BMW’s newest division. While it shares some foundational elements with the 8 Series, which was discontinued in April this year, the Vision BMW Alpina stands out with its unique styling.
Design and Inspiration
The Vision BMW Alpina measures 5.2 meters in length and features smooth surfaces accentuated by sharp creases. One of its most striking features is the shark nose, characterized by a deep double kidney grille with an illuminated frame. Interestingly, despite being powered by a V8 engine, the grille remains completely closed off, showcasing a bold design choice.
The side profile of the car includes an updated version of Alpina’s signature ‘deco lines’. These are no longer traditional pinstripes but are subtly painted underneath the car’s clear coat. The rear end of the concept also has a sharply angled design that, from certain angles, resembles an arrowhead. The thin LED tail-light strips, similar to the front driving lights, feature lighting elements that resemble clear-cut crystal.
Wheels and Traditional Cues
The Vision BMW Alpina rides on 22-inch alloy wheels at the front and 23-inch rims at the rear. Traditional Alpina cues, such as the 20-spoke wheels and Alpina lettering on the chin spoiler and exhaust tips, have been carried forward onto the concept. These elements pay homage to the brand’s heritage while integrating modern design language.

Interior Features and Materials
Inside the cabin, the Vision BMW Alpina showcases elements previously seen on Neue Klasse EVs and the facelifted 7 Series. These include a four-spoke steering wheel, a Panoramic Vision head-up display strip, and a rhomboid infotainment screen. The interior is finished in full-grain leather sourced from the Alps, with crystal-style switches for the electric windows, seats, and drive mode selector.
Between the rear seats, there is a storage cabinet containing a glass water bottle and, appropriately, crystal glasses. This attention to detail reflects the brand’s commitment to luxury and refinement.

Brand Evolution and Future Plans
In 2022, BMW acquired the tuning house Alpina, allowing the brand to operate independently until the end of 2025. Since coming under BMW’s full control, the automaker has introduced updated branding and a new name: BMW Alpina. This move positions the brand to sit above BMW but below Rolls-Royce in the hierarchy.
Oliver Viellechner, CEO of BMW Alpina, stated that the brand’s sales target will not significantly change from the roughly 2,500 units it sold when it was managed by the Bovensiepen family. This indicates a continued focus on maintaining the brand’s identity while leveraging BMW’s resources.

Future Models and Positioning
Although the Vision BMW Alpina is not officially destined for production, it is expected to serve as a design template for upcoming vehicles from the brand. The first models to be influenced by the concept will be a 7 Series derivative in 2027 and an X7 model thereafter. This strategic approach ensures that the Vision BMW Alpina’s design language will be carried forward into future models.
The Vision BMW Alpina represents a significant step in the evolution of BMW Alpina, blending heritage with innovation. As the brand continues to develop its identity under BMW’s ownership, it is clear that the Vision BMW Alpina sets the tone for what is to come.
