Background of Hong Ui-rak
Born in Bonghwa, North Gyeongsang Province, in 1955, Hong Ui-rak has had a long and varied career in public service. He served as a member of the 19th and 20th National Assemblies, where he gained experience in legislative processes and policy-making. In addition to his parliamentary work, Hong also held the position of Vice Mayor for Economy of Daegu Metropolitan City, where he focused on economic development and urban planning.
In November 2021, Hong took on an advisory role as the chairperson of the Southern Region Economic Policy Committee for Lee Jae Myung, who was the Democratic Party’s candidate for the 20th presidential election.
