How Did Meshack Join the Australian Police?
In a post-ceremony interview filmed in his Queensland Police uniform, which included a light blue shirt paired with a dark tie and checkered cap, Meshack explained the path that brought him to Australia. He mentioned that Queensland runs a programme that recruits serving or former police officers from a specific list of African “exempted countries,” and Kenya is among them.
“The application was lengthy because of the background checks,” he said, but noted that the process went smoothly overall. He also reflected on differences between policing in Kenya and Australia, saying Australian law enforcement places a much stronger emphasis on human rights and the humane treatment of members of the public.
Meshack revealed he has been posted to Rockhampton, a city roughly six hours from Brisbane, where he will begin his duties as a constable.
