The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, along with Governor Monday Okpebholo, supported their chosen candidates to secure victories in the House of Representatives primary elections held in all 18 local government areas of Edo State.
The activity, which was observed in various regions of the state, was largely characterized as calm by party representatives and involved parties. In Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, APC chairman Mr. Monday Oseh stated that the process went smoothly and without incident, adding that the party’s chosen candidate won.
At the announcement of the results, Returning Officer Kassim Otono stated that Oladele Bankole-Balogun received 3,368 votes, surpassing other candidates such as Paul Afeghase, who obtained 1,663 votes, and Adetutu Owolabi, who garnered 793 votes.
He stated, “I am circulating to oversee the exercise, and everywhere is quiet. We are experiencing no problems whatsoever. We will conduct a peaceful exercise, and the results will be announced.”
In the Etsako Federal Constituency, Embassy Momodu, a supporter of the favored candidate, Hon. Anamero Dakeri, widely recognized as Danco, revealed that Dakeri had already been announced as the victor and was selected as the party’s nominee following his victory over four other contenders.
In the Oredo Federal Constituency, Dr. Paddy Iyamu, the former Education Commissioner, was selected as the APC candidate for the election, surpassing the current representative, Hon Eseosa Iyawe, who also represents the Oredo Federal Constituency.
In the same way, the current legislator, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion, was selected as the party’s nominee for the Ovia Federal Constituency.
Additionally, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, a legislator who represents the Owan federal constituency, lost in the House of Representatives primary.
He was beaten by Hon Andrew Ijegbai, a former Mining Commissioner.
Ijegbai was declared the victor following the vote tally.
Commenting on the process of the primaries, the Edo State chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Emperor Jarret Tenebe, stated that the party held the most open and just primary election ever organized by any political group in the state.
Tenebe mentioned that the party had anticipated the result, noting that several days prior, the party released a statement instructing all registered members of the party to take part in the activity.
The workout has been free up to now. It shows how the APC is getting ready for the elections. We are presenting our first eleven candidates for the House of Representatives and we will do the same in all other primaries.
The result of this primary demonstrates that we are a highly dedicated political party with our focus firmly set on the objectives.
