Two lawmakers from Edo State’s House of Representatives, Prof. Julius Ihonvbere and Hon Esosa Iyawe, have failed in their attempt to re-enter the National Assembly.
Professor Ihonvbere, who serves as the representative for Owan Federal Constituency, is currently in his second term and has expressed interest in seeking a third term.
His goal was reportedly opposed to the political merger between Owan East and Owan West, as the House of Representatives is limited to two terms each.
His rival, Andrew Ijegbai, who previously served as the Commissioner for Mining, was announced as the victor with a total of 3,695 votes.
Hon. Esosa Iyawe, representing Oredo, is a newcomer who was elected under the Labour Party’s banner but later switched allegiance to the APC.
He lost to Dr. Paddy Iyamu, a former Education Commissioner, who received 7,088 votes.
