Taiwan Rejects Trump’s Independence Warning

Pakistan, May 16 — The foreign ministry of Taiwan has stated once again that the island is a “sovereign democratic nation” following a warning from US President Donald Trump against official separation from China. This declaration was made in reaction to Trump’s remarks during his state trip to Beijing, which reignited discussions about Taiwan’s political position.

Trump stated that his stance on Taiwan remained unchanged, yet he opposed any actions aimed at achieving formal independence. He also expressed doubts about US military involvement in case of a conflict, advocating for a reduction in regional tensions. Additionally, his comments underscored continued ambiguity in US strategic communication.

In reply, Taiwan expressed appreciation to the United States for its backing in promoting regional peace. Nevertheless, it firmly denied any claim that Beijing holds authority over the island. China asserts that Taiwan is a rebellious province and has not excluded the possibility of using force to achieve reunification. A representative of President Xi Jinping stated that Taiwan is the most delicate matter in US-China relations. Additionally, Beijing emphasizes that it is crucial for future diplomatic relations.
