Regional Leaders Visit Victims of Brutal Terrorist Attack, Vowing Joint Action

Ilorin, Nigeria – In a powerful display of solidarity and shared concern, the governors of Kwara, Kogi, and Ekiti states undertook a somber visit to victims of a devastating terrorist attack on the Woro community. The injured are currently receiving medical attention at the General Hospital in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

The visit by Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State), Usman Ododo (Kogi State), and Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti State) followed a brutal assault last week on the Woro community and its neighbouring Nuku settlement. This brazen act of violence tragically claimed the lives of over 100 residents and forced many more to flee their homes, significantly escalating security anxieties across the entire North-Central region of Nigeria.

During a press briefing at the Government House in Ilorin, Governor Oyebanji of Ekiti State characterized the attack as a deeply unfortunate event and unequivocally expressed his state’s solidarity with Kwara State and its people. “We stand in solidarity with the people of Kwara State over this unfortunate incident,” Governor Oyebanji stated. “We also commend the Federal Government and security agencies for the swift response so far. The victims are stable but remain under close watch at the intensive unit.”

The Ekiti governor further emphasized the commitment of the three states to bolstering their collaborative efforts in combating cross-border criminal activities that pose a persistent threat to communities throughout the region. This coordinated approach aims to create a more robust security network and proactively address the challenges posed by armed groups operating across state lines.

Also present during the visit was Raheem Ajulo-Opin, the member representing the Irepodun/Isin/Oke-Ero/Ekiti Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives. The leaders collectively offered prayers for the swift and full recovery of all those injured in the attack.

Outrage and Calls for Justice Following Woro Massacre

The horrific violence in Woro and Nuku has drawn widespread condemnation, with community leaders and organizations demanding decisive action. Abraham Olanrewaju, the National Coordinator of the APC Christian Leaders Forum of Nigeria, has vehemently denounced the massacre, describing the killings as barbaric and utterly unacceptable.

In a statement issued in Ilorin, Olanrewaju highlighted the persistent tragedy of innocent lives being lost to violent attacks. He stressed that no society can truly flourish when its citizens live in a constant state of fear.

“The Woro massacre represents a painful reminder of the urgent need for renewed commitment by all stakeholders to protect lives and property,” Olanrewaju declared. He extended his deepest condolences to the grieving families of the victims, as well as to the Emir of Kaiama, Muazu Sheu Omar, and Governor AbdulRazaq.

The APC Christian Leaders Forum urged security agencies to intensify their operations to prevent any recurrence of such devastating attacks and to ensure that justice is served for all those who have been affected by this tragedy. Olanrewaju also issued a strong call to leaders at all levels of government to act with urgency and determination to restore peace and security to the affected communities and the wider region.

Furthermore, he appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to redouble their efforts in implementing preventative measures and intelligence gathering, with the ultimate goal of thwarting future attacks.

The statement concluded with fervent prayers for divine wisdom to guide Nigeria’s leaders and for the establishment of lasting peace and security across Kwara State and the nation as a whole. This tragedy underscores the critical need for sustained vigilance, effective governance, and robust community engagement to counter the persistent threats of terrorism and violent crime.
