Suspect Apprehended in Sylhet Rape Case
Sylhet, Bangladesh – March 26 – Authorities in Sylhet have arrested a primary suspect in the alleged abduction and rape of a 17-year-old girl in the Jaintiapur upazila. The suspect, identified as Oliur Rahman, 28, was taken into custody early Thursday morning.
The arrest took place in the Manikganj area of Gowainghat upazila, following an intensive police operation. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, reportedly occurred on March 22nd.
According to the details of the case filed, Oliur Rahman allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence in a DI vehicle. At the time, the girl’s parents were reportedly not at home. Rahman is accused of fabricating news about an accident involving the girl’s father, a ruse he allegedly used to lure her out of her home. He then purportedly transported her to a secluded area in Pakhiteki, within Fatepur Union, where the alleged rape took place.
Following the victim’s report and the subsequent filing of a general diary, a formal case was registered at the Jaintiapur Model Police Station. A police team, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Obaidul Islam, launched an immediate investigation and operation that culminated in Rahman’s arrest.
Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla, the acting officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur Model Police Station, confirmed the apprehension. He stated that the arrested suspect has been presented before the court. Efforts are reportedly continuing to locate and apprehend other individuals believed to be involved in the crime. The police remain committed to bringing all perpetrators to justice.
