Dhaka Police Launch Investigation into Moghbazar Incident, Station Chief Reassigned
Dhaka, Bangladesh – March 26 – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has initiated a formal investigation into a recent incident that occurred at a shop within the Moghbazar Vishal Center. In a related development, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Hatirjheel Police Station has been removed from his post and reassigned.
The DMP’s Deputy Commissioner for Media and Public Relations, Muhammad Talebur Rahman, officially confirmed these actions through a press release issued on Wednesday.
The incident, which unfolded on March 20, reportedly stemmed from a promotional offer concerning panjabis (traditional men’s attire) at a showroom associated with the market committee. While the exact nature of the “unexpected situation” remains under review, the formation of an investigative committee signals a thorough examination of the event’s circumstances. A key objective of this committee is to ascertain the extent of any police personnel’s involvement in the unfortunate occurrence.
As a direct consequence of the incident, the acting OC of the Hatirjheel Police Station has been temporarily attached to the DMP Headquarters. Simultaneously, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) from the same station has been reassigned to the Rajarbagh Police Lines. These immediate personnel changes underscore the seriousness with which the DMP is treating the matter.
The DMP has indicated that further disciplinary or administrative actions will be determined based on the findings and recommendations presented by the newly formed investigation committee. The committee is expected to conduct a comprehensive review of the events, gather statements, and analyze any available evidence to provide a clear account of what transpired at the Moghbazar Vishal Center showroom. This process aims to ensure accountability and to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
The incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to maintain order and professionalism, particularly in public spaces and during commercial activities. The DMP’s swift response, including the establishment of an investigative body and personnel reassignments, demonstrates a commitment to transparency and due diligence in addressing internal matters and public concerns. The outcome of the investigation is anticipated to provide clarity on the situation and reinforce public trust in the police force.
