Introduction to the Health Centre IV Project

In the heart of Sembabule District, Uganda, a significant development is taking shape. The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Engineering Brigade has initiated the construction of a Shs3.7 billion Health Centre IV in Kashunga Village, located within Lwemiyaga Sub-county. This project marks a pivotal step towards enhancing healthcare access for thousands of residents who have long faced challenges in obtaining medical services.

Overview of the New Health Centre IV

The new facility, valued at Shs3.7 billion, is set to offer a wide range of essential healthcare services. These include comprehensive maternal and child healthcare, emergency medical services, laboratory services, and other critical treatments that have been lacking in the sub-county. The establishment of this health center aims to address the longstanding gaps in healthcare delivery, providing much-needed relief to the local population.

Commitment from UPDF Engineering Brigade

During the launch of the project, Corporal Wokola Asiimwe of the UPDF Engineering Brigade emphasized the importance of timely completion and adherence to quality standards. He assured the community that the construction would be completed within the agreed timeframe and to the required standards. “We are committed to delivering this project on schedule. Our team will ensure that the construction is completed to the required standard so that the people of Lwemiyaga can begin benefiting from improved healthcare services as soon as possible,” Asiimwe stated.

Support from Local Leaders

Local leaders, including Lwemiyaga County Member of Parliament Emmanuel Rwashande, have welcomed the initiative and urged residents to support the UPDF engineers. Rwashande highlighted the transformative impact of the project on the community. “This is a transformative project for our people after years of struggling with the healthcare system. I call upon residents to support the UPDF engineers and protect the construction site so that the hospital is completed without unnecessary delays,” he said.

Community Response and Expectations

Residents of Lwemiyaga Sub-county have expressed optimism about the potential benefits of the new Health Centre IV. Many have previously had to travel long distances to seek medical treatment, often venturing to Rushere, Mubende, Masaka, and Lyantonde. With the completion of the facility, they anticipate a significant reduction in the time and cost associated with accessing healthcare. One resident shared, “For many years we have been forced to travel to Rushere, Mubende, Masaka and Lyantonde for treatment. Once this facility is completed, our mothers, children and the entire community will be able to receive quality healthcare closer to home.”

Impact on the Community

Lwemiyaga Sub-county consists of five parishes and more than 30 villages. According to the sub-county chairperson, the new Health Centre IV is expected to serve over 30,000 people. This will not only alleviate the pressure on neighboring health facilities but also significantly reduce the time and financial burden on residents seeking treatment outside their area.

Conclusion: A Step Forward in Healthcare Access

Once completed, the Health Centre IV is anticipated to enhance healthcare delivery in one of Sembabule District’s underserved communities. By bringing essential and lifesaving medical services closer to the population, the project represents a crucial step forward in improving the overall health and well-being of the residents in the region.
