Sri Lanka, May 16 — The Meteorology Department reports that the low-pressure system situated to the northeast of Sri Lanka remains active, causing overcast conditions and rain in various regions across the island.
The department stated in its weather forecast released at 5:30 a.m. today (16) that it is consistently observing the system’s actions, progression, and motion.
As per the weather prediction, there may be intermittent rain or thunderstorms in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-western, and Northern provinces, along with the Galle and Matara districts.
Significant rain totaling approximately 75 mm is anticipated in certain locations within these regions.
A number of shower periods are also anticipated in the Anuradhapura District, while rain or thunderstorms could take place at certain locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces after 1:00 p.m.
The Meteorology Department has advised people to implement proper measures to reduce the impact of short-lived powerful winds and lightning that occur with thunderstorms.
