Hankook Tire Fortifies North American Presence with Specialized Dynapro SUV Tire Line

Hankook Tire is strategically expanding its footprint in North America, a region that represents the world’s largest market for Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The company is leveraging its specialized SUV tire brand, ‘Dynapro,’ to capture a significant share of this lucrative segment. By securing original equipment (OE) contracts to supply tires for prominent SUVs and pickup trucks from leading North American automakers, including Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Nissan, and Toyota, Hankook Tire has firmly established its position as a global top-tier tire manufacturer.

The Dynapro brand name is a fusion of ‘Dynamic’ and ‘Professional,’ embodying the tire’s intended purpose: to deliver optimized performance across a wide spectrum of driving conditions. This includes everything from everyday paved roads to challenging, unpaved, and rugged terrains. Dynapro tires are engineered to provide all-season driving stability and exceptional durability on both dry and wet surfaces. Furthermore, their capability in snowy conditions is validated by the ‘3PMSF’ (Three Peak Mountain Snowflake) certification, a mandatory standard for winter tires in many European countries. This certification is awarded only to tires that demonstrate a specific level of performance in braking and driving on snow-covered roads, a crucial factor for safe winter travel and compliance with regulations in certain European jurisdictions.

The distinct requirements of SUVs necessitate tires designed specifically for their unique characteristics. Due to their higher center of gravity, SUVs are more susceptible to body roll and load transfer during dynamic driving maneuvers. Their increased weight compared to standard passenger vehicles places a greater burden on tires during instances of rapid acceleration and braking. Consequently, precise handling performance is paramount. Utilizing tires designed for regular passenger cars on SUVs often proves insufficient to meet these demanding performance criteria.

Recognizing the critical need for tires tailored to SUVs, Hankook Tire invested heavily in the development of the Dynapro line. This comprehensive development process involved extensive friction and noise testing, rigorous handling evaluations, and meticulous tread pattern design, all conducted in extreme environmental conditions. The tread, the part of the tire that makes direct contact with the road, plays a pivotal role in determining driving stability and noise levels. Hankook’s dedication to optimizing these aspects has resulted in a tire range that effectively addresses SUV-specific challenges.

A Diverse Lineup for Every Terrain

The Dynapro tire lineup is thoughtfully segmented to cater to diverse road surface environments and driving preferences. It comprises six distinct product lines, offering comprehensive coverage for both on-road and off-road applications:

  • Dynapro Evo AS: This versatile tire is designed for general SUV drivers who navigate a mix of city commuting and highway driving, offering a balanced performance profile.
  • Dynapro HPX: Engineered specifically for high-performance SUVs, this tire delivers enhanced handling and responsiveness for more spirited driving.
  • Dynapro HT2: Primarily focused on highway driving, this tire provides a quiet, comfortable, and fuel-efficient experience for long-distance travel.
  • Dynapro AT2 Extreme: Built for the adventurous, this tire is engineered for extreme off-road conditions, offering superior traction and durability in challenging terrains.
  • Dynapro XT: This specialized tire is tailored for crossover vehicles, providing a blend of comfort, efficiency, and capable performance for urban and light off-road use.
  • Dynapro MT2: Dedicated to extreme mud terrain, this tire boasts aggressive tread patterns and robust construction for unparalleled grip and performance in muddy environments.

This strategic segmentation allows Hankook Tire to align its product offerings with the varied needs of North American consumers. For instance, while the Evo AS caters to everyday SUV users, the AT2 Extreme and MT2 are specifically targeted at consumers who actively engage in off-road leisure activities. Considering the vast geographical expanse of North America, its diverse climatic conditions, and its prevalent outdoor-centric lifestyle, providing a range of options within a single, trusted brand based on specific usage scenarios is a key element of Hankook’s market strategy.

Dynapro’s Performance Proven on the World Stage

The exceptional performance capabilities of Dynapro tires have not only been validated through rigorous testing but also demonstrated on the demanding arena of motorsports. In February of this year, Hankook Tire supplied its Dynapro MT2 tires to three competing vehicles at the prestigious ‘King of the Hammers’ off-road racing event held in California, USA. This event is widely recognized as one of the most challenging off-road races in North America, featuring punishing desert and rocky terrains that push both vehicles and tires to their absolute limits.

Further solidifying its competitive edge, Michael Pungk, a driver utilizing Hankook’s Dynapro off-road product lines, secured a commendable third place in the Pro Light class at the 2024 ‘Antique Off-Road National’ competition. These achievements underscore the real-world performance and reliability of the Dynapro brand in the most demanding off-road environments.

Hankook Tire remains committed to continuous technological advancement, drawing upon the extensive resources of its global research and development facilities. These include the cutting-edge research institute, Korea Technodome, which houses facilities like Technoflex, and Korea Technoring, the largest tire test track in Asia. The company’s technical expertise is further honed through its exclusive supply of WRC (World Rally Championship) racing tires and its active support for participating teams, accumulating invaluable experience in the competitive SUV tire market. Beyond performance, Dynapro tires have also garnered significant design accolades. The Dynapro AT2 Extreme and Dynapro XT received top honors at the 2021 US ‘Good Design Award.’ Their design excellence was further recognized with prestigious international awards, including the German Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award, highlighting Hankook’s commitment to both functional superiority and aesthetic appeal.
