Talisman Mining (ASX: TLM) has unveiled promising assay results from its recent aircore (AC) drilling campaign at the Sheepyard prospect, a key area within its broader Walkers Hill gold project located in New South Wales. These early-stage findings point to the presence of shallow gold mineralisation, including several impressive intersections of higher-grade gold, fuelling optimism for the project’s potential.
Unpacking the Sheepyard Prospect Discoveries
The AC drilling at Sheepyard has successfully intersected a substantial zone of shallow gold mineralisation. Among the notable highlights reported by Talisman Mining are:
- 15 metres grading 1.10 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold from surface. This broad intersection demonstrates the widespread nature of the mineralisation.
- Within that 15-metre zone, a significant higher-grade section of 6.0 metres grading 1.95 g/t gold was identified. This suggests concentrated zones of economic interest within the broader mineralised envelope.
- Another significant intersection of 9.0 metres grading 1.05 g/t gold from a depth of 30 metres further underscores the potential for substantial gold deposits at Sheepyard.
These results are particularly encouraging as they originate from a shallow depth, which typically translates to lower extraction costs if a commercial deposit is eventually developed.
The Walkers Hill Gold Project: A Promising Footprint
The Walkers Hill Project itself is a substantial exploration tenement, characterised by an extensive gold-in-soil anomaly that spans an impressive area of approximately 4.5 kilometres by 2.0 kilometres. This large footprint indicates a significant geological system with the potential to host considerable gold resources.
Historical exploration data, alongside Talisman’s more recent efforts, has consistently pointed towards the presence of broad zones of gold mineralisation across the Walkers Hill trend. Crucially, these earlier findings at Sheepyard also indicated the existence of narrower, but higher-grade, gold intersections within these wider mineralised zones. The latest AC drilling results appear to confirm and expand upon these historical observations.
Sheepyard is strategically positioned at the south-eastern extremity of the Walkers Hill trend. This specific area exhibits a concentrated gold-in-soil anomaly covering an area of 1.5 kilometres by 1.0 kilometre, further refining the focus for exploration within the larger project.
Future Exploration: Expanding the Horizons
Talisman Mining is not resting on its laurels. The company has outlined an ambitious plan to further explore and define the mineralisation at Sheepyard and its surrounding areas. This includes:
- Additional Mapping and Geochemical Sampling: Planned programs at Maroonbah, situated three kilometres north-west of Sheepyard, will involve detailed mapping and soil geochemical sampling. This aims to identify and characterise new target areas and understand the broader geological context.
- Follow-Up AC Drilling: A crucial next step will be a follow-up aircore drilling program. This will involve two additional lines of AC drilling to be conducted further west of the current westernmost line. The objective is to ascertain the full extent of the higher-grade mineralisation that has been intersected to date.
- Timeline for Further Work: Access to Maroonbah and the completion of the additional soil geochemical programs are anticipated later in 2026. This will pave the way for the subsequent drilling phase.
The company’s share price was trading down 1.05% at 9.4 cents, with a market capitalisation of $16.94 million at the time of reporting.
