Alleged Gunfire at Rihanna’s Los Angeles Residence: Florida Woman Faces Attempted Murder Charges
A disturbing incident unfolded on March 8th when a Florida woman, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz, allegedly opened fire on the Los Angeles property of global music icon Rihanna and her partner, rapper A$AP Rocky. The couple, along with their three young children and Rihanna’s mother, were reportedly inside the residence at the time of the shooting in the affluent Beverly Crest neighborhood.
Police and prosecuting authorities have detailed that Ortiz, 35, is accused of using a rifle from her white Tesla to discharge at least 20 bullets. The projectiles are said to have been aimed towards Rihanna’s home and an adjacent property. Fortunately, no individuals sustained any injuries during the terrifying event.
The Charges Against Ivanna Lisette Ortiz
Ortiz faces a severe array of charges stemming from the alleged shooting. These include one count of attempted murder specifically targeting the nine-time Grammy winner. Furthermore, she is charged with 10 counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm and three counts of shooting at an occupied dwelling.
Despite the gravity of the accusations, Ortiz, who is identified as a licensed speech pathologist, has entered a plea of not guilty. During a court appearance, where she was visible behind glass in a custody area, her legal representation, deputy public defender Derek Ray Dillman, was present.
Ortiz herself briefly addressed the court, stating, “Can I say one sentence? I would like to say that I wasn’t attempting murder. But that’s all I wanted to say.”
Prosecution’s Stance and Potential Penalties
The prosecution, led by Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott, emphasized the dangerous nature of the alleged actions. Bott stated, “This case involves a dangerous, deliberate shooting into occupied homes. This is the kind of conduct that could easily have resulted in multiple homicides.”
If convicted of all the charges she faces, Ivanna Lisette Ortiz is looking at a potential sentence of life in prison. She is currently being held on a substantial bail of $1.8 million. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with authorities working to piece together the full details of the alleged attack. The case highlights the serious implications of gun violence, particularly when it targets private residences occupied by families.
