Campaign Launched to Showcase President Ruto’s Development Achievements

A new initiative has been launched in Eldoret, Kenya, with the explicit aim of promoting President William Ruto’s development record. This campaign will focus on highlighting the administration’s accomplishments across a range of critical sectors, underscoring the tangible impact of its policies.

Spearheading this effort is a dedicated group of women, led by Nominated Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Uasin Gishu, Carolyne Cherono, widely known as “Nono.” The campaign is designed to engage the public extensively through a series of roadshows and forums. These events are intended to draw attention to the significant projects undertaken by the government over the past three years, illustrating the practical application of its development agenda.

Cherono articulated that her role as a nominated MCA within the Uasin Gishu County Assembly is specifically to champion gender interests. Consequently, she feels a profound obligation to actively promote the policies and achievements of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, which are fundamentally rooted in the party’s manifesto, commonly referred to as “The Plan.” She emphasized that President Ruto’s electoral victory was a direct result of his success in convincing Kenyans of the clarity and viability of his agenda, as meticulously outlined in the manifesto.

“The Plan”: A Blueprint for Economic Transformation

“The Plan,” also recognized as the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, serves as the cornerstone of the current administration’s economic strategy. Its core objective is to fundamentally reshape the nation’s economy by focusing on several key pillars:

  • Infrastructure Development: Investing in and upgrading essential infrastructure to facilitate economic growth and connectivity.
  • Poverty Reduction: Implementing targeted programs and policies designed to alleviate poverty and improve the living standards of vulnerable populations.
  • Job Creation: Fostering an environment conducive to employment generation, particularly for the youth and marginalized communities.
  • Improved Access to Healthcare and Education: Enhancing the quality and accessibility of essential services, ensuring that all citizens have the opportunity to thrive.

“The initiative we are launching in Eldoret is to go out and tell Kenyans that the President’s plan is working, and we can see the evidence in key sectors of our economy,” Cherono stated. She pointed to a series of concrete achievements as evidence of the plan’s efficacy.

Tangible Achievements Across Key Sectors

The campaign will highlight a spectrum of accomplishments, including:

  • Stable Food Production: Measures taken to ensure food security and consistent agricultural output.
  • Affordable Housing: Progress in providing accessible and affordable housing solutions for citizens.
  • Infrastructure Development: Significant investments in roads, bridges, and other vital infrastructure.
  • Nyota Programme: Initiatives aimed at empowering youth and fostering entrepreneurship.
  • Construction of Markets and Stadiums: Development of public amenities to support local economies and community well-being.

Cherono drew a parallel with her observations during a visit to Singapore, where she witnessed firsthand how affordable housing initiatives can profoundly transform lives. She expressed confidence that similar progress is being achieved under the current Kenya Kwanza administration.

“Our objective is to reach out to wananchi, including hustlers and mama mboga, and show them that it is now possible to own homes through the affordable housing programme using the resources they have,” she explained. This initiative aims to demystify homeownership and demonstrate its attainability for ordinary Kenyans.

Furthermore, Cherono emphasized that government projects have demonstrably created employment opportunities, with a particular focus on empowering the youth. Many young individuals, she noted, have successfully launched their own income-generating ventures, often with the crucial support provided by programs like the Nyota initiative.

Enhancing Public Awareness and Social Programs

Cherono underscored the critical importance of public awareness campaigns, recognizing that many Kenyans may not be fully apprised of the opportunities available to them without dedicated sensitisation efforts. This campaign aims to bridge that knowledge gap.

She also addressed the Social Health Authority (SHA), defending its ongoing operations despite acknowledging initial challenges. Cherono asserted that the government is actively working to resolve these issues. “We have testimonies of many Kenyans who have benefited from SHA, and that is what we want to share as we also recruit more people into the scheme,” she said, highlighting the positive impact already being felt and the intention to expand its reach.

Regarding food production, the nominated MCA reported that the government has successfully fulfilled its commitment to providing subsidized fertilizer in a timely manner, a move that has significantly boosted agricultural output. “Through subsidized fertilizer, we now have more food, making it easier for Kenyans to put food on the table, as the President promised,” she affirmed.

Cherono also claimed that the purchasing power of Kenyans is showing signs of stabilization, with a notable number of young people benefiting from the employment opportunities generated through various government programs.

The culmination of this initiative is planned to be a major public event in Eldoret, featuring a street showcase. This event will be an opportunity to present success stories from the implemented programs and to actively recruit more residents into the Social Health Authority and other vital government schemes, further broadening their impact and accessibility.
