EFCC Denies Link Between Campus Operations and Student Protests
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has strongly refuted claims circulating in a viral video that suggest a connection between recent anti-fraud operations on the Kwara State Polytechnic campus and student protests. The anti-graft agency has labelled such assertions as “contrived and an outright misrepresentation of the operation.”
In a statement released by its spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, the EFCC clarified the nature and scope of its recent activities, emphasizing that the operation was not confined to the institution’s premises.
Details of the EFCC Operation
The EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate conducted a targeted sting operation on Wednesday, March 24, 2026. This operation focused on two buildings identified for suspected involvement in internet-related fraud, located in the Agbede Community within Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State. The agency stressed that the operation did not exclusively take place on the Kwara State Polytechnic campus.
During the course of this operation, the EFCC successfully apprehended 30 individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud. Among those arrested were six students from Kwara State Polytechnic.
- Suspect Profiling: The EFCC confirmed that profiling of the arrested students revealed their active involvement in internet fraud activities.
- Recovered Assets: The operation led to the recovery of eight vehicles believed to be proceeds of criminal activities. Additionally, numerous mobile phones and laptops were seized from the suspects.
The EFCC reiterated that the sting operation had no connection to the Polytechnic itself. The agency asserted that no entry was made into the institution’s premises, and consequently, there was no disruption to any of the school’s activities.

The EFCC expressed its strong opposition to any attempt to link student protests with its lawful operations. The statement explicitly stated, “It is untenable to link any protest by some students of the Polytechnic to the lawful operation of the EFCC.” The agency is committed to transparency and professional conduct in all its endeavors.
